This week in Literacy, we have been continuing our learning about caring for our environment and thinking of new ways we can help our world. 🌍💚

We have been innovating and sharing our own ideas about how we can make a positive difference. The children came up with lots of fantastic suggestions, including having a shower instead of a bath to save water, donating old clothes and toys, recycling, and reusing items instead of throwing them away.

🗺️ Together, we created a new information map to help us remember and share all of our ideas about looking after the environment. The children enjoyed discussing ways to care for our planet and contributing their own thoughts and experiences.

🎯 In our "Have a Go" learning, the children:

📖 Read short sentences and drew pictures to match what they had read

✏️ Practised writing our red words "to" and "go"

🗑️ Created persuasive posters encouraging people to put their rubbish in the bin

🎲 Played phonics games to develop reading and spelling skills

💬 Shared their ideas about caring for the environment and explained why these actions are important

It has been wonderful to see the children becoming more confident readers, writers, and communicators while learning how they can help care for the world around them.

🏡 Ideas to Try at Home 🏡

🌍 Create an Eco Challenge Choose one small environmental action to complete each day, such as turning off lights, using less water, or recycling.

🎨 Design a Poster Make a colourful poster encouraging people to look after the environment and display it at home.

📖 Read and Discuss Read books together and talk about how characters help others or care for their surroundings.

🚿 Water Saving Detective Look around the house for ways to save water. Can your child remember to turn off taps or choose a shower instead of a bath?

🧸 Donate Together Sort through toys, books, or clothes that are no longer needed and discuss how donating them can help other people.

🎲 Play Phonics Games Practise recognising sounds, reading red words, and blending simple words together through fun games.

✏️ Sentence Writing Encourage your child to write simple sentences using this week's red words, such as "I like to help." or "I go to school."

🌱 Reuse and Create Use recycled materials such as boxes, cartons, or tubes to make a model, picture, or craft project together.

🌟 This Week in Maths 🌟

This week, we have been learning about sharing and grouping and exploring odd and even numbers. 🔢✨

👥 The children have been practising how to recognise and make equal groups by sharing objects fairly between friends, toys, and groups. We talked about what it means for groups to be equal and how to spot when items have not been shared fairly.

🧸 Using practical resources, the children enjoyed sorting, grouping, and sharing objects in different ways. They compared groups and explained whether they were the same or different.

🔵 We also explored odd and even numbers. The children learnt that some groups can be split into pairs perfectly (even numbers), while others have one left over (odd numbers).

🧠 Through hands-on activities and discussions, the children began to notice that sometimes objects can be shared equally and sometimes there are leftovers. This helped them develop their problem-solving and reasoning skills.

The children have shown great enthusiasm and confidence when sharing, grouping, and investigating odd and even numbers. Well done everyone! 👏

🏡 Ideas to Try at Home 🏡

🍇 Snack Sharing Use snacks such as grapes, crackers, or fruit pieces and ask your child to share them equally between two people.

🧸 Toy Grouping Collect a set of toys and see how many equal groups your child can make.

👫 Odd or Even Hunt Choose numbers between 1 and 10 and use objects to find out whether they are odd or even by making pairs.

🍽️ Table Setting Ask your child to help set the table. Count out plates, cups, or cutlery and discuss whether they can be shared equally between family members.

🖐️ Pairing Game Use socks, shoes, or gloves to make pairs. Talk about what happens when one item is left without a partner.

🎨 Draw and Group Draw different numbers of shapes and see if they can be put into equal groups or pairs.

🚗 Sorting Collections Group toy cars, building bricks, or buttons into equal sets and compare the groups.

🧠 Ask Maths Questions Try questions such as:

• "Can 6 counters be shared equally between 2 people?"

• "What happens if we share 7 counters?"

💬 PSHE Focus: Father’s Day and Special People 💬

This week, we have been learning about Father’s Day and celebrating the special people in our lives who care for us, support us, and help us grow. We discussed that families are all different and that some children may celebrate with their dad, while others may have a grandad, stepdad, uncle, older brother, or another special person who plays an important role in their life.

In child-friendly terms, we discussed that:

✨ It is important to appreciate and celebrate the people who help us

📖 Learning Focus – Father’s Day Around the World

We explored where the tradition of Father’s Day began and talked about how people celebrate it in different ways around the world. The children enjoyed sharing stories about special people in their lives and the activities they like to do together.

💬 The children explored questions such as:

• What do you enjoy doing with your dad or a special person in your life?

• What makes that person special to you?

• How do we show someone that we care about them?

• Do all families celebrate Father’s Day in the same way?

The children shared thoughtful ideas and enjoyed listening to one another’s experiences, showing respect for the different family structures within our class. 🌈

🎨 Creative Activities

The children took part in a range of activities linked to Father’s Day, including:

🖍️ Drawing portraits of their dads, grandads, brothers, or other special people

👀 Looking carefully at facial features such as eyes, hair, beards, glasses, and smiles to make their portraits unique

Please ensure you have paid your child's £15 donation towards the trip by Tuesday. This can be done through parentpay or the office can help support you with payment.

🌟 🏃 PE Reminder – Fridays

A reminder that PE takes place every Friday. However this coming week it will be on different days for different groups, can all children bring in their PE kits and leave them in school.
Please ensure your child brings their full PE kit (black shorts and white T‑shirt), and that all clothing is clearly labelled. This helps us keep belongings organised and supports children in developing independence when getting changed.

Please note the following updates. Clubs have started and there are still places available.

🧥 Uniform Reminder

• Please ensure your child comes to school wearing a warm coat as the weather becomes colder.

• All items should be clearly labelled with your child’s name to avoid lost property.

📚 Reading Folders

• Reading folders should be returned every Wednesday, giving adults time to change the books ready for Friday.

• Please share the book with your child, add a short comment, and sign their reading diary.

• Books should be kept in their book wallet and handled carefully.

• If a book is lost or damaged (e.g., ripped pages), we kindly request a £5 contribution to help us replace it.

To enjoy our mud pit and outdoor learning—especially in wet weather—please send in a pair of clearly labelled wellies.
Wellies will remain in school so children are always ready for outdoor adventures.

💧 Labelled Water Bottles

Please send your child with a labelled water bottle every day.
This helps us keep track of bottles and encourages healthy drinking habits throughout the day.
