• Knowing the reality and facts about environmental issues makes indifference become unviable as a position in life.

• Through the texts we read, we become more aware of what is happening, though it can be challenging knowing that there are a lot of things outside of our control

Field Experiences:

• Being fully aware of our surroundings allows us to stay connected with nature and ourselves.

• We learned through our engagement with the land in farming food, how resilient the Earth is and how we can positively impact it.

COIL Collaboration:

• It put into perspective how culturally different people can be, even in small things like how we engage with school.

• There is a world out there of points of view that we do not understand, and it is only through sharing that we get to peek into their minds.

1. Air pollution research
   We realized Guadalajara’s dirty air isn’t “normal”; it comes from choices about cars, transport, industry and how the city is planned.

2. Who is most affected
   We saw that people with fewer resources, who use buses or work outside, are usually the ones breathing the worst air, which feels very unfair.

3. Garden experience
   In the ITESO garden we felt with our bodies how hard it is to grow food sun, effort, time so now we value every vegetable much more.

4. Farmers’ protests
   After working in the garden, the farmers’ marches made sense: they are not “blocking streets,” they are defending their land, their work and our food.

5. Big picture- new vperspective
   Putting research and field experience together, we now see the environment as something that touches our daily lifeour health, our food and our city not as something separate or abstract.
