         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Hook:</strong> Imagine having to do hard labor every day without much rest and not much to eat. Slaves had to go through this every single day, where they were whipped until they were wholly covered in blood and treated very harshly.<br><br><strong>Background Information:</strong> Frederick Douglass wrote the narrative <em>The Life of Frederick Douglass</em> in 1845. In  this book, he wrote a  first hand account of all he has witnessed and experienced while he was a slave.<br><br><strong>Thesis Statement:</strong> Along with the use of figurative language, Douglass uses his story about his personal experience with slavery to reveal the effects of slavery on slaves and slaveholders which supports his position to end slavery.</div>]]></description>
