  •      By 1920, heavily armed British forces outnumbered by at least four to one. But the IRA had some advantages over the British.
  • Many local people fed and hid IRA members in 'safe houses
  • Local people helped the IRA use guerrilla tactics very successfully. IRA fighters were organised 
  • Micheal Collins directed IRA intelligence. He organised a spy network which penetrated into the heart of British Headquarters at Dublin Castle.
  • Micheal Collins also controlled a group of twelve men called the 'Squad', who assassinated British spies.
