Cameron Garcia

Simon Wiesenthal was a Holocaust survivor, and dedicated his life to documanting Nazi crimes, and hunting down other plans of the Nazi's. Simons Jewish Documentation Center has tracked thousands of Nazi's all over the world, and has exposed Holocaust deniers. The Simon Wiesenthal Center that has opened in 1977, continues this tradition by monitoring present day Holocaust supporters.

Tyler Utz

The Holocaust is remembered to most as a dark, depressing, and cruel time. The Germans thought that the Jewish were a problem and needed to be removed. The Holocaust is remembered as a horrible time because the Germans put the Jewish through concentration camps where they were starved, and worked to death. It's important to remember the Holocaust because there was many loved ones lost through this dark time.

How did the birth of Israel help survivors? How did Zionism connect with this?

Vanessa Gallardo

The birth of Israel helped survivors because they were safe in their own borders. Also, they were protected by their own army and air force. Zionism connected with this because a movement among Jewish idealists was started to create a homeland for Jews because Theodore Herzl, the founder of Zionism, felt that Jews had always been persecuted. In the book, it states, "The Zionists argued that only in such a homeland could Jews find the freedom, peace, and security that had so long been denied to them in many parts of Europe. Representatives of the Jews already in Palestine toured the DP camps, urging their fellow Jews to join them in the struggle to found a Jewish state."
