Homeshake is an indie pop artist that I discovered pretty early on and is certainly one of the few artists that initially prompted my interest in music production. His music has a very notable lo-fi energy to it but I think its the the incredibly out of the box beats, vocals, and random instruments and effects that you rarely see used together that started making me ask the questions, "How did he think of that?", "What did he sample to make this noise?".
His although very simple-sounding tracks are packed full of creativity and seem very delicately produced.
Prior to the release of his album Helium, he was frequently using the Roland SP-404 to produce his earlier albums (Mohenu, 2019). This intrigued me as the SP-404 just happens to be one of the few pieces of equipment that was somewhat accessible to me and I started going to my friend's house for the sole purpose of playing around with random samples
In an interview (Under The Rock, 2019) HOMESHAKE cited D'Angelo, Curtis Mayfield, and Prince as Major influences.

Lil Peep is a Lo-fi rap artist I found much later on than my other influences. There's a heavy stereotype around his music which I can definitely credit as to why it took me a while. It was definitely the heavily relatable lyrics and portrayed social groups that attracted me to his music. I love the effects he uses on his vocals which he sings with nothing but passion and seamlessly overlayed onto slow tempo and creatively sampled Lo-fi beats. On top of this is a new layer of relatability. Lil Peep started and ended his career using Garage band and recorded his vocals in the early days just in his bedroom (Rindner 2018). It was artists like Homeshake and JPEGMAFIA that prompted my passion for the music industry, but it was Lil Peep that prompted the chase for a career within it.

Jpegmafia or "Peggy" is an experimental hip-hop artist, and certainly one of my bigger influences on the production side of music. He produces, mixes, and masters all of his tracks by himself (Grantcharov, 2018), giving him full creative control over the product. I think having all of these skills refined to such a degree on a single person is a very attractive quality as a producer and a quality I wish to have myself as my career progresses.
On top of all that and behind his lyrics that are just filled with energy and passion, I find his beats to be incredibly erratic and unpredictable, this adds a currently unmatched feeling of excitement while listening to his music and I find it frequently matches my own energy and emotions.

Fall Out Boy's influence on Lil Peep was much harder to pinpoint. After listening to some of Fall Out Boy's songs I can definitely see how they influenced the Indie rock aspect of Peeps' music, although I can't find any samples taken directly from Fall Out Boy, there are plenty of samples from similar artists such as My Chemical Romance and Oasis, and there's actually just been a new release featuring Fall Out Boy who reached out to Makonnen, one of Peeps closest friends after Peeps death having known their influence on the artist. (Lil Peep & IloveMakonnen feat Fall Out Boy - I've been waiting, 2019)

David Bowie was Lil Peep's biggest inspiration and influence (Bartleet, 2017). He has stated this in many interviews. I can hear some influence in his music but I think this relates more to who Peep was as a person, his morals, beliefs, and character.
David Bowie was very well known for his fashion, heavily emotional music along with his variety of different tones and styles of music (Steigner, 2021), while also an inspiration to the LGBTQ+ community, with his unashamed fashion and bisexual identity. These are all qualities that can clearly be seen in Lil Peep's character, heavily emotional music, outrageously creative fashion, diversity of music styles and tones as well as later coming out as bisexual in 2017.

Frank Ocean's influence on Lil Peep is very apparent. Although there were very few viable sources mentioning him, you can definitely correlate the very spacious and emotional soul energy within their music. These are all attributions of tempo and vocal structures within their songs as well as the effects they used on their voices and ambient noises used on their tracks. In an interview with Montreality, (2018) Peep noted on his plans for the future saying he wanted to take a "Frank Ocean route" dropping projects that included just him. I think this mainly points to a unique substance of respect from Lil Peep to Frank Ocean, possibly idolizing his individuality and character within the industry.

These are all heavily relatable aspects to Homeshakes character and music, very warmly toned soulful music and previously stated his respect for political artists and intends on introducing this aspect into his future productions (Stubblebine, 2017). In an interview with RIML_TV (2017) Homeshake sites the album "Curtis/Live!" as being a perfect performance with beautiful music.

Prince's influence seems to have been directly translated into Homeshake's music. Prince was using a lot of distortion and reverberation on his guitars, bass, and vocals, Homeshake can be seen taking this to a new level in almost all of his tracks, you can rarely determine the origin of all the sounds within his music. One thing that certainly pricked my ears was how he structured his vocals. Often singing in short bursts, or talking very slowly. I think is another very strong correlation between their music. Homeshake's vocals are rarely generic sounding, popping up at unexpected points in the song and often sounding completely different each time.

After listening to some of D'Angelo's music I found it to have a bit of a jazzy touch to it, with very warm and playful overtones all alongside some very unique instruments often edging into the traditional category. These can certainly be detected in Homeshake's music today where a new degree of unique instruments are displayed within an often very inviting and warmly toned track. His more recent music almost seems like a perfect mix between his older Lo-Fi productions and D'Angelo's Jazzy R&B. Homeshake stated that he really admires the political side of D'Angelo and many artists alike. On his up-and-coming albums he intends on using his music and audience as a positive influence on politics (Stubblebine, 2017), again taking influence from this artist.

Throbbing gristle produce mainly instrumentals, very interesting and unique ones as-well specificaly the album "20 Jazz funk greats"-1979, Jazzy instrumentals with a trap drum beat underneath it, lots of crazy, unique effects and ambient noises similar to those heard in JPEG's music. From this alone I can tell exactly where there influence can be heard in Peggy's music, They produce with astounding bounds for creativity and aside from JPEG's use of similar drum patterns he has made it very clear how important the creative aspect of music is to him, we can infer from his refusal to pass his own creations to other people for mixing, mastering and lyrics, again from the interview with the Cambridge Union (2020). "I find them interesting because they push the art in a way thats weird as fuck but it still makes sense" (Joshi, 2018). From this we are invited to conclude that Throbbing gristle had a very similar influence to JPEG as MF DOOM, both idolised by Peggy for their creativity and use of a similar erratically structured beats.

From this we can deffinetly infer the the rock group Hanson was the initial prompt for Peggy's passion of music.
I think the artist as we know them, JPEGMAFIA draws the majority of his current influence from other rap or hip hop artists, It is only In his past productions under the name Devon Hendryx (Pearce, 2019) that I can see some resemblance in their creations where his music is a little more acoustic and less digital processing was done.

Peggy's own words in an interview for acclaim magazines, quickly followed by "Im going to make sure his influence lives on because hes had such a big impact on the way i create,(Owens , 2021). MF DOOM introduced new sampling sources and methods into the hip-hop industry. I think we can definetly credit this as being the source or inspiration for many if not all the artists within the genre, Peggy's music consists of his own unique samples and limitless creativity, certainly as a result of DOOM's influence on him.
