 Owen stood in awe as the light started to shine even brighter.All of a sudden, the room was dark as the light dimmed then disappeared completely.He groped around, looking for something to hold on to.He blinked,confused.As soon as his eyes adjusted to the darkness,the light quickly reappeared as it has disappeared and was forming into something.Something…that seems to be in the shape of a human?

  “What…what are you?”was all he managed to say before it was all darkness.

   Owen blinked.Where was he?He surveyed what seemed to only be an empty room.Footsteps echoed through the outside of the walls that surround him.Owen felt his heart beat faster against his will.He desperately looked around,searching for a clue or an answer to what was happening.His eyes fell onto his hands that seemed to not be chained,which was…odd.The footsteps increased in volume.Owen decided that the only thing he could do,with nothing to use as a tool,was to close his eyes,pretend to be unconscious as he was before,and hope for the best.

  Owen heard the sound of a door being opened.Funny,he thought.He did not see a door in the room at all.Owen was as still as a statue.Weirdly enough,a conversation seems to have started right beside his unmoving body.

  “Neru,this is a human we are talking about.A human!You do realise that his arrival poses as a threat to our kind? Do you not fret for the welfare of our kind?”some…thing shouted with clear anger.

  “Father,I do care for our kind,which is quite the opposite of what you have said,I am afraid,but this is a living creature.What can we possibly do to it?”another…thing asked.

  “What can we possibly do to it?!What type of question is that? We shall eliminate it from the plane of existence!”the…thing announced it as if it was very obvious.

  “Father…I,I can’t possibly let that happen.I’m off.I do not wish to be part of this conversation any longer.”the…other thing sighed and left the room.

  The other creature present in the room the left and the door disappeared behind it.Owen opened his eyes,ever so slowly.The air in the room was still and Owen heaved a sigh of relief.He examined the room once more.He was laying down on an elevated rectangular box.He ran his hands through it.He was puzzled by the events that had just unfolded before him.What and who is Neru?And why are they in the middle of deciding whether to make him stop existing or not?Owen lifted his hands up into the air as a sign of surrender.He was too exhausted to think about anything.His eyelids were drooping,and soon he drifted into a peaceful sleep.

What are the differences between poetry and prose?

Poetry involve poems and verses that are written in lines(stanza) while prose involves sentences and words.

Poetry has rhyme and rhythm while prose does not necessarily have it.

In a poem,a word limit is existent.However,this is not the case for prose,there is no limit to the number of words that can be written.The sky’s the limit.

A poem usually has figurative and rhythmical words while a prose uses language that is more natural, grammatical and easy to understand.The language is used in day-to-day activities.

And so, it seemed, his comment had done nothing to waver the street urchin’s confidence.

“And what makes you think the risk of execution would scare me?” The boy in rags smirked, only angering the prince tied up in the chair opposite him. The prince only bit on his bottom lip, struggling to tamp down the anger that bubbled within him—mixed with the rage of fear and confusion.

What kind of idiot kidnaps a prince and assigns a ransom alone? Without a disguise, nor proper strategy, no less.

“You are well-spoken, despite your—“

“Not all of us are idiots, y’know.” His captor looked unimpressed.

“Right. My apologies.” The prince had no choice but to relent. His big mouth would have only conjure up more trouble.

They had remained silent, the prince simply observing the boy opposite him.

Being kidnapped was…quite the experience, to say the least. The prince had heard of worse stories—where kidnappings involved starvation, and such.

The prince had certainly gotten off lucky, then. He was talked to, and fed every hour—‘to fit the needs of a prince’, his captor had said—and even accompanied by the captor himself.

But the two of them grew tired of each other’s presence, and his captor took to mumbling to himself and playing with his back-up ransom letter.

“What’s your name?” The prince decided to ask, as naming the person ‘street urchin’ and ‘his captor’ in his head was rather vexing.

His captor smirked, the hood over his head making the smirk all the more ominous, before he opened his mouth to speak.

“You first, your majesty-ness.” The captor grinned. The prince rolled his eyes, holding back a snarky reply.

“Orion. How could you not know the crown prince’s name?” Orion questioned incredulously.

“I live a more sheltered life than you do, I guess.” His captor shrugged. “Well, alright. My name’s Archer.”

Archer. A befitting name for one so swift with a bow—Orion recalls the time he was first kidnapped, sleeve stuck against the wall, the arrow embedded into it narrowly missing his left arm.

“Nice to meet you, Archer.” The prince smiled.

“Good to see you too, big O.”

Orion cringed at the nickname.

“Do not call me that.” Orion frowned, displeased.

His captor howls with laughter.

One flicker of a switch was just one of the many sounds my ears could detect from the slightest of noises made in the house. My hand reached for the dial and turned it. What was left of my senses allowed me to feel something warm—a source of heat getting hotter. Must be the iron turning on.

The morning routine never failed to be the same as ever. My body had gone on autopilot the moment I forced myself out of bed, like the mindless, emotionless robot I was. My heavy eyelids were tempting me to just collapse onto the floor and catch my Zs.

Just for a few minutes. That’d be my excuse. I just wanted more sleep. That was all.

I stared at my bed, desperate to give in to the feeling of my body trying to pull me towards it, as if it were a magnet. It was like the bed itself was beckoning me to go back in its gentle embrace of slumber.

I turned my head towards the clock. The digits 5.30 were already enough to ruin my entire morning. All I could do was survive another day so I could finally go back to my sweet dreams once again when all of it is over. I groggily dragged my feet towards the dresser and pulled down my wrinkled white school uniform.

Ding!

Yet another sound to be expected in a sleepy morning. Heat from the iron wafted through the air as it countered the fresh coolness of the morning.

I grabbed hold of the iron’s handle, gathered all the strength I could barely muster, and dragged the heap of hot metal across the creases of my uniform.
