The junk was left in space and still circles the planet. As a result, it could cause problems for future trips to space. The scientists spoke about orbital junk at a meeting in Germany. In less than 25 years, the number of large orbiting pieces has more than doubled. Each is large enough to destroy a spacecraft. The estimated number of tiny objects is now around 150 million. The smaller objects can harm or damage spacecraft if they hit it. "We are very much concerned," said Rolf Densing. He oversees the daily activities of the European Space Agency, or ESA.
