         <description><![CDATA[<div>Hello! My name is Sibilla and I teach mathematics in a primary school near Milan, Italy. Our school is quite small, with about 300 pupils whose ages range between 6 and 10. We have ten classrooms, all equipped with interactive whiteboards and internet access. I believe that a quite difficult challenge nowadays is to integrate successfully newly arrived children from different countries, and many teachers among the whole European Union are now facing this task with all the problems related the different background of each pupil, who is first of all a child. For this reason, schools play a key role in welcoming and integrating these new resources of our society, but often their lack of experience and external support lead to big issues for the whole school board, from the teachers to the management.</div>]]></description>

         <title> HOW DO SCHOOLS ORGANIZE THEMSELVES: The integration of new pupils in our school actually provides a good opportunity to rethink schools in general, favouring new ways of integration and innovation. •	In some schools, the children are taught in separate classes for a certain period of time or certain subjects, in others they are quickly integrated in classes together with the other students.•	EDUCATION IS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT, ENSHRINED IN THE CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD (1989) AND IN THE 1951 REFUGEE CONVENTION.•	At the moment, in our school there are no newly arrived migrant students, but my school is preparing one step a time to receive them. In particular, teachers need to be prepared for the great challenge of receiving students who do not speak Italian and have been totally ripped out from their countries and cultural roots. It is about providing educational, social and emotional support. These are just few of the reasons why I decided to attend this course.•	In my school, it is quite common to develop projects that promote tolerance and respect for differences, and we try to teach a culture of peace. The projects I am referring to, are not designed specifically because of newly arrived migrants, but we think that each pupil should learn how to respect differences and socialize with everyone. In my opinion, it is all about teaching the richness of diversity of the many cultures of our world, of our modes of expression and of our ways of expressing our qualities as human beings. It is a matter of teaching how to find harmony in differences. It is a matter of teaching our students that the respect for difference and tolerance are virtues that make peace possible and contribute to replace a culture of war with a culture of peace.</title>

         <title>I do not have any newly arrived migrant students but I have had students from other countries. Regarding my experience, I believe that the most important thing for students (and families) is the need to overcome the language barrier. After this giant leap, everything else will be easier.</title>

         <title>Maybe I could have them doing interactive real life tasks (hands- on experience), TPR activities using  body movements and gesticulations that generate interest while helping them gain knowledge at the same time.</title>
