- Additionally, the UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea) is becoming jeopardized by China with deliberate acts stating claim to territory not of their own.
- Further, other global powers may look to try and resolve the issue or have input into it. 
- Applying processes of ASEAN way and soft diplomacy can be effective. However, it could be more so if coupled with aid and influence from other global powers to stop China from what they are doing (i.e. the US).

Risks include pressure from Bangladesh and the international community for ASEAN to support the repatriation process, even though it is destined to fail due to issues in Myanmar. In order for the repatriation process to succeed, the anti-Rohingya sentiment of the country needs to be abolished, as well as the heightened violence between Rohingya Muslims and Rakhine Buddhists in the Rakhine state. Furthermore, Rohingya are refusing to repatriate due to the Tatmadaw and Myanmar government not being prosecuted, therefore making it dangerous to return to the country. ASEAN is challanged by this due to its non-interference policy, where it can't prosecute Myanmar for its war crimes. Ways to solve the issue include ASEAN assisting Myanmar in fulfilling actions in the Kofi Annan commission by providing a framework such as the ASEAN Political-Security Community. This is achievable due to Myanmar being democratized and the scope for Aung San Suu Kyi fulfilling the Responsibility to Protect in accordance with ASEAN.
