My favorite assignment in Health Class this year was the Drug and Alcohol Rap/Poem. First of all, I thought the entire Drug and Alcohol Prevention unit was really important because when people don't know the risks of something, they often go ahead with it and receive terrible consequences. For example, based on a survey by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse, "People Ages 12 and Older: According to the 2019 NSDUH, 14.5 million people ages 12 and older (5.3 percent of this age group) had Alcohol Use Disorder. This number includes 9.0 million men (6.8 percent of men in this age group) and 5.5 million women (3.9 percent of women in this age group)." These numbers are appalling, so by learning about how bad addiction can be, we're hopefully reducing the risk of our generation contributing to these numbers in the future.
The reason I really liked the Drug and Alcohol Rap/Poem is because while it was informative and got the lesson of prevention across, it was also very fun. My group and I couldn't stop laughing after we had gathered all our information and were recording our rap. In fact, when we did finish the final result, we were all super proud of it. In the end, this assignment made us more educated on addiction and prevention of drugs and alcohol, a feeling of accomplishment when we successfully rapped our song, and closer classmates overall.
