During my experience, I smelt the clean, crisp, and airy scent of nature. I saw birds flying, trees whooshing with the wind, bugs flying around, jumping from the trees to the grass, the sun setting for the day. I heard and sensed the wind around me, the birds chirping and the crunching of leaves beneath my shoes.

For my creative work I decided to focus on the temporal language of sound/music and create a soundscape.
I watched numerous Nature soundscape audios that led me to thoroughly consider the importance of soundscapes, how they provide people with a sense of mindfulness and peace and even have physical effects on people, such as 'calming breathing, heart-rate and muscle tension' (Benway & Board 2022, para. 8). Ultimately inspiring me to create my own.
My soundscape covers the sounds that I heard during my experience, the trees in the wind, the birds chirping and flying in unison, the leaves I step on as I walk. I comprised this collection of sounds and created my soundscape through iMovie, this process was lengthy, especially in finding the sounds that encompass what i was physically hearing during my experience. The pitch of the wind goes from high to low as in my experience, this was a re-occurrence. Similar to the birds in the background, their squeaks and screeches getting softer then louder.

This experience reminded me of my childhood. I was constantly outdoors, kicking around soccer balls by myself, looking for special rocks in the gardens and creating imaginative worlds.
The birds constantly being present during my experience made me think of my niece who always shouts 'birdie' whenever she sees a bird flying, chirping or sitting anywhere, ultimatley making a connection to Wilson's text which highlights how children and adults know the world differently, 'the child knows the world as being fresh, and new and beautiful, full of wonder and excitement' (Wilson, 2007, p.g. 5) whilst the adult does not have this perception anymore, I find this to be true, whilst I fail to find the fascination in nature and wildlife as they pass by, my little niece perceives this amazement and carries a sense of appreciation constantly.

As I watched the trees sway from side to side in unison with the wind and how they aligned with one another, i was led to discover the possibilities of outside dance.
A concept I was introduced to from the article 'Creative dance-play for early childhood' where they discuss how crucial it is for children to 'touch and sense through a changing landscape' (Dance Teaching Ideas, n.d.), highlighting the ways in which this can be accomplished, suggesting children make statues that represent their favourite trees. The trees in my game/experience were extremely expressive due to how strong the wind was, leading me to understand more thoroughly outside dance. Trees such as the ones I witnessed being an object that can initiate a creative movement activity, getting children to mimic the trees.
Furthermore, through this movement activity I was able to have a glimpse into how movement and drama work in unison. How this activity of mimicking tree's could be considered a drama activity, personifying the trees and how they express their emotions through their actions, movements and sound.

As I listen deeply to the noises that surround me, the high chirping of birds in juxtaposition to the low sounds of the crunching of leaves that I walk on, I am fascinated of nature and its ability to create noises that give people a sense of peace and relaxation. I am aware of how much nature is taken for granted, how 'natures quietness' (Ungunnmer, 1988, p.g 2) is not given enough appreciation for what it offers.

informing my future practice: analytical response

This assessment has definitely informed my future practice in early childhood settings. I had limited awareness and knowledge on the importance of the temporal arts in benefiting children, and whilst this awareness is still growing the knowledge that I have gained is knowledge that I will strive to implement in my emerging practice.
I was constantly reminded and making connections during the readings to my own childhood, specifically Wallin's article 'Let's play outside', Wallin discusses the importance of pretend play in natural settings, introducing the concept of affordance and how certain objects can have a large affordance that offers more flexibility in children's play. For example, sticks. Wallin emphasises the large affordance sticks have as they can be used in pretend play as a cane (Wallin, 2019). I automatically made a connection from this reading to my childhood, i constantly utilised sticks as a wand, creating the storyline that i was a witch who had special powers.
Being something that was so fundamental during my childhood, i hope to encourage other children to also engage in role play/socio-dramatic play, giving them an opportunity to create their own imaginary world, providing them with access to the natural materials that help further stimulate play, materials that are open-ended and don't suggest pre-determined outcomes. Furthermore, this is something that has evidently benefited children's play and became something that offers them a chance to 'decenter' and think from another perspective (Wilson, 2007, p.g. 2).
Additionally, Wilson's chapter covering the importance of play has definitely played a role in informing my future practice. Learning how through play children are able to gain a deeper sense of self and the world around them whilst additionally playing a role in their physical and emotional growth. I was also able to gain a deeper understanding on how play and the natural environment interconnect and benefit children the most. The natural environment being the ideal place to stimulate creative play and provide children with the most 'playful physical environments' (Wilson, 2007, p.g.4).
Overall, i have learned how the natural environment can become an interactive resource and stimulate childrens play. Being a place where they can create imaginary worlds and engage in pretend play, utilise the sounds surrounding them to create music and perceive the objects around them as encouragement for movement.
