It's very simple to obtain info about long and lat. Today we have so many way to get these informations. I suggest a simple web-app named latlong.net
You have only to write name of your location and... get it. LAT = 37.574 and LONG= 15.050 These are my coordinates in this moment :-)

Until now we don't meet the cartography issue, on a nautical map, a Mercator's map it is very easy to find your position because parallels and meridians are orthogonal lines crossing on the map and you can locate a position with a great precision. however, how can determine your coordinates ? there are also a lot of apps on your cellphone that also your student can use. Some options are:
1. providing my address (country, province, city, street, housenumber, zipcode), which can be used to find coordinates (lat, lon or national coordinate system) for plotting on a map (paper of digital).

Being able to tell the exact location is something that few of us can do without using the technological tools that modernity has provided us with. In order to accomplish this request, I would necessary have to use my smartphone or computer or tablet and, for example, I would send my location by using the app "Maps" and others like that.
Technology helps us in our everyday activities and they represent a great deal... but, at the same time, we often forget why it's vital to keep on study geography or maths at school. I often hear comments made by my students which are mostly like "why do we need to study this subjects, these arguments!". I wish they could understand how we got to the knowledge we have today, how men from the past led us here, which path they took, which studies they followed and discoveries they made, in order to find out new things and evolve. The video about logarithms is really interesting in this sense, because it helps to understand why it has been and it is still important to study and use (without any technological devices) maths formulas.

Using a classical way it would be very difficult: it's cloudy :-(

I live out in the countryside and there are still spots where we get no signal for phones to work. So if I was to direct someone to where I lived I would use village names, street names, easy to recognise markers (such as churches), rough distances and perhaps compass directions.

Even if they could use Google, having my street number and zip code would only get them so far because Google takes them to where our house is registered in their database by coordinates. They actually have to drive onto a different street in order to get to our house.

If there is technology, of course I would use all technologic things especially web based platforms; Google map, WhatsApp’s send location feature etc. But if there was not internet, I would use the main thing that we can see common. Like old days, everybody could see main stars (Ursa Major, North Star, and Sun etc.) or moon and used them. But now we have things common too like internet. We can send our location with one click by internet connection.

My best friend Google Map! Today technology help us, but 15 years ago the Sun helped me. We travelled to home from Germany. Everybody was tired and we lost (but nobody knew). I was sitting in the bus, it was really hot, and I thought "Why shine the sun on me?" And suddenly I knew we travel to North and not to south! I stopped the bus and the we traveled to the right direction.
