I didn't quite enjoy the course at Middlesbrough College because I didn't have much free rain of my creativity I had to do exactly what my tutor said and I couldn't really put my own spin on it but on this course and in this college I can have a little more free rain and I can put my own spin on the creative stuff such as Editorial and i have really found such as passion for SFX makeup . In my own time i really enjoy coming up with characters and creating a look for them

I have so many ideas but I think I want to go down the rout of Tim burton and Henry Sellick . So with this the movies I have chosen are The nightmare before Christmas and Coraline .

There is a recent trend going around on social media called the wool trend and this is where you take wool or yarn and wrap it too your face and create a look with it , this could be really good for sally stitched because she is covered in stitches and with this I could add some SFX into it by adding blood to her stitches to make it look as though they had just been done.

The other idea I have is from Coraline .

I was thinking of doing a look where Coraline never went back home and the other mother sowed buttons in her eyes and she turned into a ghost like the other children that stayed with the other mother .

so for this look the main thing would making my model look like a ghost and making her look sad and tried but with buttons in her eyes and having a forced smile that has been held open by her cheeks being sowed up.

For example I gave feedback to a fellow Makeup artist , they needed help with shoes so I offered too give them my platform boots so they can decorate them as i am getting rid of the shoes anyway .

I also helped some others about there makeup designs for example , one of my friends in the course were struggling with what makeup to do for there design. There design is a human bug so I suggested having a bra covered in black gems so give that bug eye effect and they really liked that idea .

Another way I helped my fellow Makeup artists was one of the MUAS on this course was struggling with there outfit design , there design is based on Medusa and they anted to figure out how to create rocks so suggested doing paper Mache then covering them in grey and black paints or I said they could use latex and tissue so create some rocks and paint then also black and grey and they also loved that idea .

I had a lot if good feedback for me design . A lot of the girls on the course really loved my thoughts and my design ideas for my look . they also loved that its something very different and very out there because most of the girls are going for Disney characters and I wanted to be different and chose something completely opposite , so I chose to do Coraline theme look .

The finished look was okay but I wasn't happy with it because it just didn't look like stitches , it just looked like a huge mess , so in the end I didn't use this but I'm glad I had a go at it because here is proof that I know how to create an injury using this skill .

I really had to think about this design process because I didn't want to do the general split down the middle of the face and have two sided of the makeup because you can see that every where you look online , I wanted do something different .

So in this design I thought about a spiders appearance and how spiders look and there colours . I have chosen to do the eyes of a spider with spider pincers / fangs , with the fangs I am going to create prosthetic's and apply them to the face , but I'm not to sure how to create the eyes just yet .

I am going to do some research on spider prosthetics and figure out a way to make them with the supplies I have at home and at college . I am also going to ask for a one to one with my tutor for more advice .

Face charts are important for a makeup artist because it helps us to put out makeup ideas on paper and get a visual before we apply it to our models face

But I do want to have some sort of prosthetics on my models face so I'm thinking of creating spider pincers to apply to my models face because I think I'm going to go down the rout of creating a girl who didn't escape the Beldam and she has been turned into a real life spider that collects lost souls and she keeps her favourite ones as trophies and keeps there names on name tags and keeps them on her dress .

I want my makeup and outfit to have a really deep meaning , I have a lot to think about but as I am a really creative person I think I will be more then able to come up with something really deep and eerie.

Reason 1:the proportions are way off . the latex button was way to big for my models eye and its just looks like she has a patch over her eye . The pincers I created using latex and tissues look really bad because I had loads of ideas and I got to excited and I rushed it which set me back a little bit because I had to re do my pincers again which I didn't mind cause in this photo you can see they are way to big .

Reason 2:The cracks on the face just look like lines and there are way to many on the face . I just think it looks a little silly because there is so much already going on , on the face that I have added to much stuff and it all looks like a huge mess so I'm definitely not going to do the cracks , I have had many tries at trying to create cracks and I just couldn't get the technique right .

Reason 3 :The line separating the spider from the normal side of the face . If you go on TikTok or Instagram you will see a makeup look with a split down the middle of the face or a line going down the side of the face , and in my opinion it has been done way to much and its became a predictable look for a makeup look , so I'm going to have to think of another way to create a spider look .

But I do like the idea if the spiders eyes , I feel like they eyes and the pincers give it that eerie spider feel and it makes it look inhuman which is what I'm trying to go for .

HEALTH AND SAFTEY

Before I did anything to my model I did an allergie test to see if she was allergic to anything and she wasn't which was good. I also watched some videos on how to cover up eyes so I don't get any latex in her eyes or anything like that. It ot good to take precautions just incase of an accident or something occurring such as a reaction . But if my model did have a reaction I would take off the product that caused it ,get my model a cold compress and ask them to hold it where the reaction occurred . I would then suggest to seek medical attention if the relation had worsend .

I'm going to create spider pincer prosthetics using latex and using clay as a mould ,hopefully it will work and if not then I will have to think of something else but I think it will work.

But I am going to shorten the dress and paint my models feet and legs black because I want it look look as though she has neglected her hygiene and all she cares about is her victims and luring children to her to collect there eyes. I want this costume to be really deep and have a lot of meanings linked to the book and the movie .

IDEAS

1.Buttons. buttons in the film and the book play a huge roll because the Beldam sews buttons into children's eyes so she can keep them ,so I want buttons hanging from the dress that would be linked to her favourite kills .

2.Cobwebs , in the end of the film and the book the beldam becomes a spider and she falls into a web so I want my character have webs on the dress which I am going to paint on the dress using white fabric paint. Then I'm going to add white fluff onto the bottom of the dress and the top as well to make it seem like she has been tangles in her own webs.

3. I'm going to add name tags to the staps on her dress because I want her to have some favourite victims and to be as if she has kept them as trophies so she can always remember them and keep them close .

I'm going to add long black nails because I feel like this will really suit my costume due to it being so eerie and i also love the idea of her not being hygienic so she would take care of her nails in my opinion because if she is going to be killing and trying to lure children to her I don't think she would have time to make her nails look pretty

I attended Whitby Goth Weekend last Saturday and got got some inspiration from that too . I took in every ones makeup that I looked and I asked for tips and tricks on how too get a smooth white base . A woman recommended I use clown white grease paint and use a sponge too blend it out then set it with white powder.

I don't like the white base as it looks really patchy on my models face . I think I'm going too use a prosthetic instead of using wax as it isn't going too last as long as I want too .

I dont really like the eyes either because they look way too bulky even though I smoothed them out alot and the white base made it look even more bulky so I dont think I'm going to add these eyes either so I'm going too look at alot more options ,I used wax for the eye pieces and because it is going to be warm on the day to ,they would just fall or slip off so the wax wouldn't gold anyway .

I really prefer the drawn on eyes, I used black face water activated face paint and I used clown white for the highlight . I love how this looks because I feel like it looks alot more creepy and more spider like .

I have also decided to not have fangs anymore as there is already so much going on ,on the face so I think I am going to just draw then on with face paint and I think this looks so much better ,I have also decided to no do the white base because I don't like how it looks at all so I'm just going to go with a plain foundation base instead and with my colour theory research, when I added the black eyes to the white base it just turned grey so on a plane foundation base it would make the black stand out way more .

When I did the shading around the eyes and face , I realised that it looks alot better because from far away it looked like the eyes were popping out of her head

What I am also going to do it add layers of latex around the eyes so it looks like my spider character is shedding there own skin and becoming the spider because they didn't escape and this is there fate to become a spider and live in the other wold and stay there capturing children.

I also made the spider pincers bigger because I feel like they need to be more noticeable as a spiders main feature are the pincers and spiders are my biggest fear and the one thing that scared me the most are spider pincers as they can inject poison into your body which I think I am going to include into my my design.

I had a lot of ideas on what this projects meant , I though it would be something along the lines of going off a very specific theme such as animals or a certain movie but our tutor said that we get too pick the theme as a whole group .

We all had to work together and collaborate as whole team to figure out a theme we all liked and that everyone would enjoy doing the makeup for but this was difficult because not everyone is going too like the theme we pick but that's why we no find a compromise

I have been added to a group called The Program and this is because we are going to take photos of out team of makeup artists and get them to write a little bio about themselves so people can get to know the Makeup artists and what they want to achieve going down this career path.

We have decided so take photos of every Makeup artist in our class and ask them to write a little bit about themselves and what they would like to do after this course and what they want to achieve after the course has finished . It is basically just getting to know them and who they are .

This book gave me a description on what the other mother looks like but not to the extent I would have wanted to I had to do some more research on what she looked like as it didn't have a good photo either but its a good book to read for an over all idea of The Beldam spider . (the other mother ).

I think I am going to 100% have the buttons for eyes for this look because that is the main story to Coraline but I want to create a character where she is becoming her own version of the Beldam or the girl that didn't escape the Beldam so I'm also definitely thinking spider because in the end of the book and film the the Beldam turned into a huge needle looking spider and she has needles for arms and legs because she is a doll maker and she sows dolls together with needles.

I think I'm going to try and create them out of Latex and tissue and see how that goes and if that doesn't work I am going to either I'm use silicone or I am just going to order some already made prosthetics.

I have also watched a video on making my own prosthetics . and the girl in the video uses latex and corn starch mixed together to create a whole dragon prosthetic and sue makes it on a white face cast

I added cobwebs and spiders using white fabric paint

I also added name tags to the dress that show some of her favourite kills and so show other there fate. I really want this costume to be as detailed as possible so I wrote some names in red because they represent her favourite and in black are the ones that were okay but still meant alot

I made a spiders abdomen out of paper matche and placed tights over it to make it all black then I added button eyes to the sides to make it look like a bug which I think it would be more creepy.

I then added pincers to it to give it more of that spider kind of look . I then added sting coming out from in-between the pieces as it would look like the spider is passing Web to her to catch her next victim.

This dress took me all day to make and I am really proud of it as I have never really made a costume this detailed before it .

I also added come foam pieces to the bottom of the dress to make it look like she has her one sort of spider Web tangle bunch

I absolutely love how this looks ,my favourite part of this dress is definitely the spider abdomen as it has given my dress that spider anatomy that will link with my makeup because my whole look is based around a spider .

I wanted to be more of a creepy and eerie pice of work and I think I have accomplished that but looking at spider anatomy

I then added really long black nails one by one onto of the other to create this over grown nail look for my model .

I really thing that once this Is all put together it will look exactly how I have invisioned it in ny head but if not that is okay because I can Change it .

I then pained them black using black fabric paint on myself because I didn't know whay medium to use so I did different tests with different things and the best one was water colour face paint in black .

LIKES:

I love how you can tell its a spider look dude to the makeup and the costume . I think I have really captured that spider eccence coming from the beldame .

I also love how the hands looks . It was a really good idea to have this eerie sort of long untidy finger nail look as I feel like this Is what the beldame would have had . In my opinion I don't think she would have time to look pretty if she is luring kids and killing them.

I love how the spider abdomen looks and how you can see that the string is being fed to my character . I think this really brings my look together.

DISLIKES:

I don't really like how the wig looks so I think I am just going to leave that out . I feel like it is way too much and there is already alot going on with this look

I don't like how the feet look with the black paint either just because it looks all separated and very splodgey . So j think I will be leaving this also

BUT in the end my parter offered to be a model for me but he is a male so u have to make a whole new costume in a day . So we went to Teeside Park and bought a plain black shirt and we made a suit .

I pained on some cobwebs and spiders on the shirt . I was really upset and kind of angry because I had worked so hard on the dress and it was the first time in a while where I had felt that sort of pride in something I did but I persevered and I did a lot of problem solving and quick thinking and made a whole new costume around my new model .

I don't really like The way it looks but it had to do ,I did what I could in such short notice . I have kept the makeuo the same and for the hair I just decided to slick it back

But my first model was going to have long black finger nails but I felt that this was too feminine so I decided to make it look like my model had been bitten by poisonous spider and they have infected him .

i used some gardening metal for fake flowers and i bent it in a way a spiders legs would . i think this looks really good as i am a fast thinking and have a passion for costume design .

i also thought it would be a good idea to make some of the legs coming over my models shoulder and some of the legs come around his waist so it looks like the spider abdomen is engulfing him and taking control of him.

due to my other model cancelling on me two days before i didn't have a lot of time to come up with a new costume so i did what i could do in such short notice,and with the dress being the main part of my costume i needed something more . so i created the legs fro the abdomen for my new model

my favourite thing about this look are the poisonous bites on his body , to create these i used latex ,fake blood and a Ben Nye bruise wheel .

i layered the latex till i had around 7 coats on my model so i had something to rip , i then ripped little holes in the latex and started shading them using the dark red from the wheel. i then used yellow and green to make it look infected, i then added fake blood to make it look like he has been ripping his skin off . i did these bites all over his arms too .

i also added latex on to the spider eyes to make it look like he is shedding his skin like spiders do. i wanted to make them look soar and fresh so i kept adding fake blood to them to give them that fresh look.

i thought i would win this competition but sadly i did not but that didn't put me down because i knew i had done some amazing work and i had made myself really proud .

here you can see the back of the costume ,as you can see i have added white eyes and a big white spider on the back , i don't really like the finished costume design because it isn't as in depth as i wanted it ti be due to the time frame i had to create a costume in but that is okay.

My favourite thing about this project was definitely the poisonous bites and the costume designing,with the costumes designs I didn't didn't I would enjoy it but I was really in my element and I was in the zone dude the fact of the I could let my creativity flow free and I had full control of me desig .

My leat favourite thing would have been the wig design because I'm not the biggest fan of doing hair or styling wigs. But it is a good skill to matester and have as a makeup artist .

Overal,I loved this project and I would gladly do is again. I think I got to show my skills alot more then I would on any ordinary day. I belive that I have proven myself and I know know whay I cam capable of
