In the series, there are two distinct forms of justice: Light's and L's.

There are two distinct forms of justice in the film: Light's and L's. Both Light and L are driven by the end result, either the creation of a crime-free world or the prevention of unjustified death. Likewise, both are willing to sacrifice others in pursuit of what they believe and, ultimately, L sacrifices himself (in the movie). Based upon the conflicts and resolution of the conflicts, which form of justice should we see as correct?

Recently, there have been questions surrounding "due process" in law. Light removes due process, often passing judgement on criminals who haven't been convicted yet. On the other hand, L is not afraid to circumvent the law and surveil people in order to prevent the breaking of laws. This reminds me of discussions of American power post-9/11 and the passing of the Patriot Act.
