We had multiple ideas during our brainstorm, but we struggled to relate them all to positionality. Our first ideas were:

Walking through the city in gender non-conforming clothing
- Inspired by 10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman
Educating/informing people about different conflicts around the world that might not receive as much media attention
Public announcement/performance

Make people aware of interconnections between their lifestyles/products they buy, and potentially inspire people to see boycotting as a legitimate form of protest
Positionality: the privilege of living in a peaceful state
Relationality: the interrelatedness of the contemporary globalised world

When you open the QR code: Please take a moment to fold an origami peace dove and reflect on the privilege of residing in a part of the world where peace prevails. Let's acknowledge the interconnectedness of our lives with regions of the world that are affected by conflicts, often funded by the products we purchase and the taxes we pay. For example, the Global North's demand for electronics, have contributed to the violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo that is financed in part by the extraction and sale of conflict minerals, including coltan, tin, and tungsten. Or the huge amount of Israeli products sold in Dutch supermarkets that are inextricably economically linked to their government's genocidal policies. In fact, Utrecht University is directly linked to multiple Israeli institutions that are complicit or involved in the illegal military occupation of indigenous Palestinian land.

So next time that you advocate for “world peace”, remember that you play a bigger role in that project than you might think.

This act of creation provides a powerful opportunity to embrace this interconnectedness, express gratitude for the peace we are fortunate to have, and contemplate the role we can play in fostering a more peaceful and harmonious world. Let this dove be a symbol of our responsibility towards one another in achieving peace, regardless of the distance between us.
