1. What was the Civil Rights Movement?
American civil rights movement, mass protest movement against racial segregation and discrimination in the southern United States that came to national prominence during the mid-1950s.

2. What caused the Civil Rights Movement?
Because of African Americans skin color, they did not have the same rights that white people did for a long time. This injustice on them led to a time of social unrest. In the 1950's and 1960's, blacks rose up to fight against the social systems and public authorities that had taken these rights away. Many whites supported their campaign.

3. When did the Civil Rights Movement begin?
In the mid-1950s

What were the results of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s and today?
The civil rights movement is an inspiration for many people. Chicano activists in Los Angeles claim seeing African-American protesters on television made them understand they too suffered discrimination because of their skin complexion. Martin Luther King Jr., a central figure in the movement, eventually received a national holiday in his honor. King and the movement are inspirational symbols for oppressed groups worldwide.

Martin Luther King Jr.
He was an American Baptist minister and activist who was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience based on his Christian beliefs.

Ku Klux Klan
They have advocated extremist reactionary currents such as white supremacy, white nationalism anti-immigration. Historically the KKK used terrorism, both physical assault and murder, against groups or individuals whom they opposed. The movements have called for the "purification" of American society, and they are considered a right wing extremist organisation.

Freedom riders
On May 4, 1961, a group of 13 African-American and white civil rights activists launched the Freedom Rides, a series of bus trips through the American South to protest segregation in interstate bus terminals. The Freedom Riders, who were recruited by the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), a U.S. civil rights group, departed from Washington, D.C., and attempted to integrate facilities at bus terminals along the way into the Deep South.
