My name was given to me by my father. It is a finnish name for girls only and it is not so very common. It doesn't originate from the word soleil meaning the sun although many foreignors think so and I would love to say yes it does. But no, its origin is somewhere else in nature. It may mean the reflection of the light of the Northern Lights. I have never really liked my name.
In Finland if you belong to the church you are given your name about two months old and it may take place in a church or at your home. The priest baptizes you.

Nowadays this name is not very common and I mostly meet older people bearing the same name. The shorter verison of the name are also: Štefi, Štefka, Fani.
Names are traditionally chosen so the child can be baptised after a saint. In my case Saint Stefan who was the first martyr to be crucifixed after Jesus Christ and the patron of horses. Every year on the 26th of December farmers gather around churches and the priests bless their livestock, especially horses. The 26th of December is also a big holiday in Slovenia called "Independence and unity day".

Meaning of "Stefania"
French name

In French, the name Stefania means - crowned in victory. The name Stefania originated as an French name.
