Leader's name: KONG XIANG YING

TOPIC 8

Q1:
-The first leadership behavior is directive leadership. For example, a directive approach includes creating a clear plan of action for the team to execute when uncertainty is high. During times of chaos or with a brand-new team, there can be a stabilizing effect to directive leadership. This elevated teamwork and confidence during the rest of the trip.

-The second leadership behavior is supportive leadership. For example, a supportive leadership is not so interested in giving orders and managing every detail as in giving employees the tools they need to work themselves.

- The third leadership behavior is participative leadership. Examples of participative leaders include facilitators, social workers, arbitrators and group therapists. A facilitator, for example, seeks to involve everyone in the process so that the whole team forms its own conclusions collectively through dialogue and collaboration. A facilitator may draw on other techniques that could be associated with other leadership styles, such as analysing the group process or defining group boundaries.

- The last leadership behavior is achievement-oriented leadership. An example of this type of leader behavior would be a manager who pushes employees to work hard on a specific project and has faith that their employee will be able to complete it.

TOPIC 9

Q1:
The functions of communication are control, motivation, emotional expression, and information.

Q2:

The barrier of communication is filtering, the deliberate manipulation of manipulation of information to make it appear more favorable to the receiver. Even employees who work for the same organization but in different departments often have different jargon.

Q3:

Use feedback

Simplify language

Listen actively

Constrain emotions

Watch nonverbal cues

Leader‘s name：Loo Yao Jie

Topic 8
Directive Leadership
-This style is characterized by leaders making decisions for others and expecting followers to follow instructions. The directive leader is adept at giving instructions, setting expectations, and establishing timelines and performance standards. For example, when there is a lot of uncertainty, a directive approach might include creating a clear plan of action for the team to follow. Directive leadership can have a stabilising effect in times of chaos or with a brand-new team. Our whitewater rafting guide became more directive as we progressed through the rapids, instilling confidence and focus in the group.Throughout the rest of the trip, this boosted our teamwork and confidence.

Supportive Leadership
-Supportive leadership is a leadership style where a manager does not simply delegate tasks and receive results but instead supports an employee until the task’s completion. A major upside to supportive leadership is that the manager will work with the employee until he or she is empowered and skilled enough to handle tasks with minimal supervision in the future. For instance, If you’re approachable and empathetic, then you’re probably a supportive leader. You show concern for employees, and you treat them with dignity and respect. Your employees, in turn, feel valued and cared for. In times of change, they trust you to help them manage uncertainty.

Achievement oriented leadership
-The leader sets challenging goals for their employees and expects them to perform at their best. Instead of focusing on the personal needs of the employees, leaders tend to concentrate mostly on the achievements being completed by them. They show confidence in an employee’s ability to achieve these goals. For example,If you believe you and your team can always do better, and you encourage everyone to strive for greater heights, you are clearly achievement-oriented. You enjoy setting "stretch" goals and promoting continuous improvement.Employees are also empowered and given autonomy, with the expectation that they will do their best for themselves and the team. You always have faith in the abilities of individual employees and teams.

Participative leadership
-Participative leadership is a style of leadership in which all members of the organization work together to make decisions. Participative leadership is also known as democratic leadership, as everyone is encouraged to participate. For example,If you work hard to gain employee buy-in by soliciting feedback, you're most likely a participative leader. You encourage employee participation in decision-making and, more importantly, you assure them that their opinions will be and have been taken into account. You consult directly with employees depending on the situation; other times, you delegate your authority to employees who participate in decision-making.

TOPIC 9

The functions of communication are control, motivation, emotional expression, and information.

-Communication barriers include the inability to listen to the opinions of others. Active listening is an important aspect of effective communication. If you don’t listen to others, you cannot interact with them because you tend to make assumptions about their needs based on your own perception and reality.

-Barriers to communication include filtering. Filtering refers to distorting or concealing information to manage a person's reaction. Some examples of filtering include managers who keep their department’s bad sales figures in touch with their boss and vice president, who are worried that the bad news will make him angry.

we can overcome the barriers this 5 ways it is use feedback，simplify language，listen actively，constrain emotions， watch nonverbal cues

It is most effective when people are unsure about the task or when there is a lot of uncertainty within the environment.

Supportive: The leader makes work pleasant for the workers by showing concern for them and by being friendly and approachable. It is most effective in situations in which tasks and relationships are physically or psychologically challenging.

Participative: The leader consults with his followers before making a decision on how to proceed. Not being able to see the non-verbal cues, gestures, posture and general body language can make communication less effective. Phone calls, text messages and other communication methods that rely on technology are often less effective than face-to-face communication

-Cultural differences. The norms of social interaction vary greatly in different cultures, as do the way in which emotions are expressed.

Leader's name: Teo Winnie
Topic 8
Q1:
Autocratic leadership—when one leader exercises complete, authoritarian control over a group or organization—or in the case of these famous autocrats, vast empires. Leaders who use the autocratic style typically make all the decisions with little to no input from others. It’s important to distinguish dictators from these leaders. All dictators are autocratic leaders, but not all autocratic leaders are necessarily dictators. Autocratic leaders are not in the business of using their power for oppression, instead, this leadership style is more focused on power for pushing the group forward.

Laissez-faire leadership is the only style where the team gets the maximum amount of flexibility and scope for innovation. This style of leadership is perfect for teams that include team members who don’t team leads lording over them.

The Directing leadership style is just like the Waterfall project management methodology which makes you stay on track when everything has been decided and there’s no room for flexibility. The leaders using this leadership style guide their team daily with a large amount of confidence and certainty because they have perfected their vision for the project, and everything related to the construction of the project has been unanimously agreed upon by all of the stakeholders connected to the project.

participative leaders include facilitators, social workers, arbitrators, and group therapists. A facilitator, for example, seeks to involve everyone in the process so that the whole team forms its own conclusions collectively through dialogue and collaboration.

Topic 9
Q1:
The function of communication is to control, motivation, emotional expression and giving information.

Q2:
The barriers of communication is information overload, filtering and jargon.

Q3:
> use feedback
> simplify language
> listen actively
> constrain emotions
> watch nonverbal cues
