We study literature in order to benefit and improve the quality of life in our world. We study literature through examining a text and looking for the feelings we get from them. From these feelings, whether purposefully enacted by the author or not, we learn lessons about life and improve the quality of life through these lessons. In the example of TTTC, we examine this text in order to further understand the consequences of war and how there is no good and bad during the war teaching us the importance of not romanticizing it and even dreading it.

2. How are we affected by literary texts in various ways? How are we impacted by TTTC?
Literary text affects us in a mental standpoint. As we read more about a subject, we learn more and develop consciousness of its existence, making it a factor for our lives. When creating these factors, we pave a pathway for our own mentality from the start of our lives until our end, and this path decides what we do. Whether it be to improve one's own life, or dedicate themselves to others, reading impacts our mentality of what to look for in life.

3. In what ways is meaning constructed, negotiated, expressed and interpreted in TTTC?
Meaning is constructed through the literary techniques and style that was formed by the author, these techniques and style added to a more personal connection for the reader and extracted feelings of sorrow that helped interpret TTTC as a way to realize the truth about war.

4. How does the structure of style of TTTC affect its meaning?
The structure of style adds to TTTC as it becomes more personal the stories he tells, as if he were having a conversation with you in a bar or on the couch. It creates a deeper personal connection as he tries to tell you his own experience with war

The structure of the text affects the meaning as we get a deeper insight into their thoughts and struggles, growing sympathy within the readers, such as the use of SOC to show what impacts their life the most and what they struggle with the most, shifting view points to show how people's thoughts work in conjunction with each other, and analepsis and prolepsis to show depth of character as well, creating deeper connection and understanding of their struggles and emphasizing their path to fight the struggles.

Time and Space

Without context of things like the Margaret Garner story, Fugitive Slave Act, and other historical and cultural phenomena as without these contexts we would not be able to fully understand their fear of the slaveowners once they escaped or where this story comes from and its reality. Without context, the reader would be confused at many parts like these and would not be able to get the full extent of the message.
