One lecture at a time, one assignment at a time, one placement at a time. The midwives we work with on placement are fantastic, so please don't believe all the horror stories you might have heard. This is the start of something wonderful but its hard work. It can be challenging but the rewards are great. It just takes planning at the start to keep on top of the competing demands but its good practice for when you qualify. 
Take one day at a time, ask for help, write lists and set diary reminders. Get fresh air and daylight everyday, eat well (avoid the cakes if you can) and really ensure you get your sleep. Take time for friends and family and laugh everyday if you can.
Read, read, read and ask lots of questions especially if you cannot find the answers for yourself. Take ownership of your learning now because you have to be a lifelong learner as a midwife.
Use all the support resources the university provides. You will find help from your peers, lecturers and midwives in practice, but most of all you will learn from working with women and their families because not all the answers are in the books.
Enjoy being a midwife it is the best job in the world!

A piece of advise I would give is to talk to your academic advisor. I was lucky to have an incredible AA who has helped not only with the academic side of things but also placement, personal life, concerns and worries ! So don’t be afraid to talk to them :) and talk to your cohort. I learn best by repetitive writing, drawing diagrams/mind maps and flash card making. Try and find what your learning type is and stick with it.
