         <title>(Jaiden Hart) Selective Service Act and Mass Production</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1.) 1917: The Selective Service Act required that all men register to be randomly drafted into the military.<br>2.) 1918: 24 million men had been registered by the end of the year.<br>3.) African American soldiers were held in separate units / weren't allowed to join the navy or marines.<br>4.) Women weren't usually allowed to enlist, but they could be accepted as an army nurse who did NOT receive pay or benefits.<br>5.) Mass Production: The need for supplies to be shipped / needed to build more war ships.<br>6.) Four Steps:<br>- Exempted shipyard workers from the draft.<br>- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce joined a campaign to emphasise the need for shipyard work.<br>- Shipyards used fabrication techniques, meaning that certain parts were built elsewhere and shipped back to the main yard to be assembled.<br>- Government took in commercial ships and turned them into war ships.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>New Technology in War</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. New technology and weapons in the world war led to horrific injuries and hazards.&nbsp;<br>2. The new technology included machine guns, airships and airplanes, antiaircraft gun, poison&nbsp;<br>gas, and tanks.<br>3. The tanks were built of steel which means that they are bullet proof.<br>4. Airplanes back then were built to travel faster and carry heavy bomb loads.<br>5. The british used tanks in the battle of somme, but not effectively.<br>6. Ever since the airplane came into play, the force of 22,000 planes was used as a bomber force.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

American Expeditionary Forces (AEF)-&nbsp; American men from all over the country served as infantry for this Force were called doughboys; it was led by General Pershing, and they helped stop the Axis advance.<br>2. John J. Pershing- leader of the AEF, and excellent&nbsp; general during WWI<br>3. Doughboys- the troops making up the AEF, they were shocked by the harsh truths of war.<br>4. Conscientious Objectors- people who oppose warfare because they believe killing is wrong.<br>5. Alvin York- A great American war hero who was a moral objector to war because the Bible says "Thou shalt not kill," but decided it was okay if there was just cause. 6. Alvin York cont.- He killed many Germans, and captured several times more, becoming famous in the US.<br>pages: 384 and 386</div>]]></description>
