He went on many expeditions between 1503-1511. Through the years, he captured Goa and Malacca and claimed it for the Portuguese.  He also helped to create trade routes to Asia. He was a major figure in the establishment of the Portuguese sea Empire. He help make Portugal one of the longest lasting empire in history (1515-1999).  He was an explorer for Spain and served on the 1513 expedition of Vasco Nuñez de Balboa.In 1526 he traveled to Peru with Diego de Almargo and in 1531 they returned to claim the land and Fransisco captured the Inca leader.His purpose  of exploring was to obtain land and wealth for Spain. He did not really discover anything but he established the first Spanish settlement in Peru and he conquered the Inca empire.
Some interesting facts are:  - Fransisco was the 2nd cousin of Hernan Cortes.
- he was accompanied by his brothers during his conquering of the Inca empire.

 Was involved in piracy and illicit slave trading before being chosen in 1577 as the leader of an expedition intended to pass around South America. Drake discovered that Tierra del Fuego , the land south of the Magellan Strait, was not apart of a southern continent.He also sailed further north along the coast of the Americas than any other Europen had.

He traveled along the Mississippi River and ended up discovering and naming the Mississippi basin of Louisiana. He built the Griffon which was a ship used to sail the Great Lakes. In 1628 England invaded Quebec, Champlain defended it for as long as he could but ultimately lost. He surrender a fort to England but not Quebec as a whole. But if there is one thing that historians do know, it's the fact that he died on May 21, 1542 due to an illness. His crew sank his body down the Mississippi River for his burial in honor of Hernando discovering the river. Though it's unfortunate that he died at a somewhat young age, he did plenty in his lifetime. At the age of fourteen, he began his career in exploration for Spain and himself. His dream was to make his fortune in the New World. In 1514-1541, he was able to live his dream when he joined expeditions with Pedro Arias Dávila and Francisco Pizarro in search of wealth. On those expedition, he explored many counties such as Panama, Nicaragua, and Peru. He also explored North America on his own expedition. He died on May 20, 1506. Within his life, Columbus had many accomplishments, but he was most well known for being the first European to discover the new world. Columbus never intended to discover the new world. Instead, he was looking for a faster way to India. When he reached the new world onOctober 12, 1942, he believed he had reached India. This of course was not the only time he sailed, he explored from 1476 to 1504. In addition to exploring the new world he also went on many expeditions to Africa.  A few interesting facts about Columbus is that his plan was rejected by Portugal, Genoa, and Venice before he went to Spain, Columbus established forced labor against the wishes of Queen Isabella (who found slavery offensive), and finally tricked Cuban natives into trading with them by threatening to steal the moon right before a lunar eclipse.
