2. My parents do not want to me to follow their footsteps in terms of career. My parents have always expected me to make my own decisions, and only involve themselves when they believe that I need help. The only guidance my parents have provided with me is that I should follow my passions and my dreams instead of chasing money or immitating what people around me are doing. I believe that parents should not put any pressure on their children to pursue a career. A child will only grow and reach their full potential in any field if they are self motivated. If a child does not want to pursue a career, they should not be forced by their parents to do so because it does not benefit the child or the parent in any way.
4. People who do not conform to our society are treated as outcasts and abnormal. People of a society often dissociate themselves from people who do not conform to their society. It is not easy for a person to be a nonconformist because they are not accepted by the society they live in. It is natural for a person to seek acceptance of others, and when a person is not accepted, it can be hard for them to deal with.

Dr. Werner von Braun's quotation stresses the fact that a person's personality and intelligence are far more important than any physical materials. Thus, he is explaining that the effect a parent has in the mental development of their child is far more important than any materials they can pass on, because the physical possessions will not last forever but a person's intelligence will always stay with them. The quote is hinting at one of the themes of the book, which is what a parent leaves behind for their child. The theme is showed from the very beginning of the book with how supportive of him Homer's two parents are. In the book , Rocket Boys, Homer’s pursuit of education in the field of Physics is not supported by his father. Thus, the theme is displayed when Homer’s father is not passing on a legacy of education, but his mother is.

Homer’s view on Family

Apart from his mom, Sonny feels detached from his family and does not have a close relationship with either his brother or his father. Sonny feels that Jim does not care for him much, and they do not seem to share a close relationship most siblings have. Sonny feels that since Jim is a football star himself, he feels ashamed of being related to Sonny and refers to him as his sister. When Sonny and Quentin are being harassed by the football players in front of the trophy cabinet, Jim intervenes and for a moment it seems like Jim is trying to stand up for his younger brother and take care of him. Instead, Jim commands the football players to leave them alone and that they can “kick both their tails for all I care, but do it somewhere else”. Jim seems to care more about his football teammates rather than his brother. Sonny’s father is not very supportive of Sonny either. Sonny very much feels his father likes Jim more than him. It leads him to ask his mother, “Why doesn’t dad like me?”, and his mother is not able to respond with a meaningful answer. Homer’s father is not very supportive of Homer’s interests and does not seem to like Homer as much as his brother.
