The setting of LOTF really bring certain personality traits of Piggy out prominently. It shows that Piggy is a very logical and analytical thinker. The setting forces these traits to come to a for front. Piggy's reaction to the setting starts to develop symbolism in the sense that Piggy shows the voice of reason in the story. For example, when Ralph is talking about his dad reducing them, Piggy tells him that isn't going t happen.

The setting of the Lord of the Flies has differing impacts on each character. Ralph's first reaction on the island is to strip naked and run about not having a care in the world. It is apparent that Ralph is acting without a plan to what must be done but instead what he wants to do. He is acting with id.

The setting of Lord of the Flies shows how careful and logical Piggy is and how careless and reckless Ralph is. Piggy arrives to the incredible scenery that Ralph has fallen in love with and before anything else asks how they are going to get out of the island. Ralph responds that his dad will help them escape,. Piggy thinks this through and realizes that there is no way Ralph's dad will no where he is. Piggy represents the very careful, intelligent character that does all the thinking and Ralph represents the character that does things before thinking and always charges ahead.

On the island, he does not have to act the way he would while at home because his parents are not watching him. Ralph represents people who are careless and daredevils. He shows his careless side when he jumps into the water and when he does not seem to think that being stranded on the island is a bad thing.

The setting of Lord of the Flies helps develop the characterization of Ralph. His unconcern with scrambling to find a way to survive or escape the island shows his character. This is seen when he ignores Piggy's ideas to try and find out how many people are stranded with them and instead goes swimming. Ralph follows his instincts, or id in the words of Golding. This is shown when he takes his clothes off simply because he is hot. He symbolizes carelessness and childishness.

Compared to Piggy, who constantly is trying to figure out a plan on getting everyone together, surviving, and getting off the island, Ralph does not seem to worry. As Piggy does his worrying, Ralph jumps in ponds, walks around, and enjoys the moment. He never gives a second thought to how he would get off the island. Even when Piggy points out that Ralph's plan is flawed, Ralph doesn't fret.
