         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp;What Does the Word “Immigrant” Mean?&nbsp;<br><br>To immigrate means to move from one country or region to another, where one was not born. The word “immigrant” and attitudes toward immigrants have been debated and contested in the United States for generations.&nbsp;<br><br>Since the founding of the nation more than 55 million migrants from every continent have come to the United States. With the exception of Native Americans, everyone living in this country is either an immigrant or the descendant of voluntary or involuntary immigrants who were forced to come to this country during slavery or as refugees.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
