I enjoyed creating these art pieces as it is visually appealing and satisfying to look at. As you can see, I applied the element of Line to both pieces, thus creating several different lines to show for. For #1, the principle being variety, you can see a variety of colors being shown. And as for #2, you can see a rhythm of the colors, along with the shapes (on the bottom half), being the same. This creates a colorful, rhythm display. I was very focused working on these pieces. It was fun.

As you can see for pieces #3 and #4, I applied the element and variety accordingly as planned. These two took a bit more work as I had to think about what I was going to draw (within the spheres), that would make sense to my pieces. The shape and form elements were pretty easy and fun/simple to do, as the variety on both pieces, I had to brainstorm a bit! But as you notice, for #3, I did a variety of the alphabet, numbers, and symbols. And as for #4, I did a variety of flowers! I put lots of focus into these, as well. They were even more fun to do than the first two!

As you can see for #5, I applied texture as my element. I glued down some birthday ribbon/streamers, giving it that texture feel and a 3 dimensional finished look. As for it's principle, I glued down birthday candles, as this shows unity. The theme being a birthday, with candles and streamers to show for. It is united together. And lastly, I took advantage of the extra credit! #6, being space as its element, and balance, as its principle. The first quarter of the sphere (on the upper left), shows positive space. And as for the second half (upper right), this is what's called negative space. Lastly, I drew a christmas tree, snowmans, and ornaments as my balance. This is what's called a symmetrical balance as both sides are the same. These 2 were just as fun to do, as the rest of them. I felt inspired, and entirely focused throughout all my art pieces, shown here on Padlet. I hope everyone enjoys my work. Thank You!
Karina Rojas

I used the element of Shape and the principle of Balance to create Circle #1. Using triangles for my shapes, I placed four of them in mirroring positions to one another inside the circle. Additionally, each triangle is the same shape, size, and color. This means there is no visual weight to disrupt the balance of the circle. Thus, my composition is symmetrically balanced. Finally, after completing this circle, I realized that this composition reminded me of a pizza with its triangle-shaped “slices” on a circular “crust.”

For Circle #2, I again used the element of Shape. However, this time I paired this element with the principle of Rhythm. I created multiple rows that rhythmically alternate between a row of circles, a row of triangles, and a row of rectangles. Additionally, in each individual row, I made every other shape a smaller size. This allows my composition to have a pattern within a pattern. Finally, although this circle does not remind me of anything specific, the predictable pattern gives this composition a feeling of security and/or stability.

Circle #3 was composed using the element of Color and the principle of Balance. There are four colors I used to color this circle: blue. orange, purple, and green. The colors are placed in a pattern that is reflected on either side of the circle. However, the colors orange and green are more visually weighted than the colors blue and purple. Consequently, this composition is asymmetrically balanced. Finally, to me, this colorful composition resembles a colorful toy ball, such as a beach ball.

In Circle #4, I combined the element Line with the principle of Balance. A straight line cuts the circle in half one way, while a zig-zag line cuts the circle in half the other way. To create balance, one pair of opposite “corners” each has a pattern of straight lines while the other pair of opposite “corners” each has a line curved into a spiral. Since any visual weight found in this circle is distributed evenly, this composition is symmetrically balanced. Finally, I find that the colorless symbols in the circle feel harsh and rigid. This is in opposition with the previous circle that has bright, fun colors.

I chose the element of Value and the principle of Emphasis to use in Circle #5. First, in block letters, I wrote: “READ ME.” This is the emphasis, or focal point, of my work of art. I filled these letters in with an intense shade of red. I then used a lighter tone of red to fill in the rest of the circle to create a background. This displays the different values of the color red. Finally, while I reflecting on this composition, I feel a sense of urgency as I read the vivid text inside the circle.

Circle #6 combines two elements: Texture and Form. To make a texturized composition that is three-dimensional, I took pieces of tissue paper and glued them inside the drawn circle. Gluing something onto my circle gave depth to my composition; thus, it became three-dimensional. Furthermore, the tissue paper is scrunched up to give it an additional texture that one can see and feel. Finally, this composition, at least for me, is reminiscent of party decorations (such as streamers and confetti), presents, etc.

My first circle has space as an element and emphasis as a principle. It was really fun to make but it took me a long time to do it. I was starting to stress out because I didn't know how to do it and how it would look at the end, but i did like the end result.
My second circle has color as an element and balance as a principle. When I finished the first one I thought it would be easy to do the second one but it was more difficult because i didn't know exactly what to do. This circle is not one of my favorites.
My third circle has shape as an element and rhythm as a principle. This was very easy to do and it was very creative because I just drew lines around the circle without making patterns but this is one of my favorites.

My fourth circle has value as an element and space as a principle. At first, I didnt know how to do it because I didn't know how to draw cubes and I really tried my best to complete this circle.
My fifth circle has line as an element and unity as a principle. It was really easy to make but it takes patience because if you mess up just a line you will have to start all over again, but I did like it a lot.
My sixth circle was the worse circle I made. I was already tired because I did it last minute and I was already stressed out from all my other assignments but this circle has texture as an element and proportion as a principle.

A majority of what I made was in black so I figured I’d add some color, but also stick to the element and principle.

I was proud of how I created this one. I got the cup I used to draw my circle, and used the cup to create this pattern. It reminds me a bit of a basketball and making the lines completely balance was a challenge but I thought it came out well.

I love the colors here. It reminds me of a circus. One of my previous pieces also reminded me of a circus too, perhaps I have an unconscious affinity for clowns? I decided to shadow the pattern and change the colors, which I thought was clever. I had a difficult time figuring out if this was the emphasis or balance principle - but I decided it was using the balance principle because I don't think the shadows are taking away from the pattern as a whole.

But I think this is a really great mixture of the two topics. I feel like the eye is a waking vampire and the closed eyes are sleeping bats. This is probably my favorite one.
