Buy glow sticks and such, allow kids to just socialize while animal origami crafts and puzzles /games are provided but not  "forced". Having plenty available to do but not a schedule will allow it to feel relaxed and more about being together.

4.Snake heat wrap for neck - like a regular heat wrap (tube style) but with a fun tail and stuffed head. Design still in process but my teens love to hand sew?! 
5. If there is a desire to have an ending party it would likely be another relaxed hang out like the first as it seems my teens really enjoy not having a strict itinerary.

This year we will have people with unique pets from town invited to bring their pet and teach us about how they take care of them and their unique characteristics. All of these people have generously volunteered their time and pet talks - so free and local programming. 

Here is the line up so far:  
1. Local vet bringing her dog and discussing her job.
2. Horse therapist is bringing her Icelandic pony to tell kids about how horses can help people. 
3. Backyard duck raiser is bringing a duck and talking about the difference between raising ducks and chickens. 
4. My brother has a bearded dragon, so he is bringing it in on the week we are discussing Australian animals!
5. Resident with smart pet rats is bringing them in and showing us how they are trained! - this one is still in planning process! 
6. Kids will count their reading on Beanstack, by day (not minutes or books), and for every day read they receive an entry for a weekly prize pack. There will be 10 winners each week for the 8 weeks of the program.

Prizes are from the CSLP shop and include a Tails and Tales backpack, bookmark, notepad, pencil and little knick knack toys.

At the end of the summer reading program series they will get however many tickets they have links in their snake and get to put their raffle tickets into the prize they want. All programs have a set of activity sheets or easy intro activity that kids can do while people arrive. This is also great if the program ends early bc they have something to do to fill that time without being chaotic. There is always a story time with a book that goes with the theme. 

1. Go Wild for Reading kick off day: This is a day long drop in program to sign kids up and explain  summer reading. It happens on the week after the last day of school. 
  1. Animal mask making stations
  2. Footprints matching and animal scavenger hunt. 
  3. How tall are you? Animal comparison activity
  4. Book giveaway (we partner with the school to get enough new books that each kid can pick out 3 new books for summer at the library)
2. Furry friends (pets and service animals)
  1. Adopt a stuffed animal 
  2. Local vet will discuss her job and bring her dog. 
3. Backyard Zoo! (local wildlife theme)
4.Raised in a barn (local 4 H club may present) 
        Therapy horse visit
5. It's a jungle out there!
6. Fish Tales  
7. Animals of Asia
8. Animals of Africa
9. Outback! (Animals of Australia)
10. Party Animals (ending party with raffle prize pick up, games, and more free books)

Ongoing: Animal scavenger hunt around town. Kids will have clues about the animals they are looking for then they will have to fill in the name of the animal and some other facts when they find the animal around town. When kids bring back their sheet they get a paper chain for every animal they found.
