Summary : Conor stands in the schoolyard. He tries to get Lily’s attention but she doesn’t look over at him and doesn’t give him any attention what so ever. ‘Almost as if she could no longer see him.’ Conor waits by himself leaning on a stone watching at all his classmates doing there own things and thought that ‘nothing in the whole entire universe could ever happen to them.’ Suddenly Anton, Harry and Sully come over to Conor and he becomes weak with relief.

THEME : ISOLATION

 Analysis : I believe the theme portrayed in this chapter is isolation. I think this is the main theme as Lily continues to ignore and not listen to Conor, and in his physical actions it shows us that he wants to be friends with her again. Another reason why I think this chapter is isolation is because Conor stands by himself at the rock watching over everyone. And suddenly his actually gets some attention from Anton, Sully and Harry.

Summary : Connor wanted to go to the hospital too but his dad said that could pick him up from school if it was necessary. Connor thought he was going to be punished for what he did to his bedroom but his dad said, “What could possibly be the point?”

THEME:  FAMILY AND GROWING UP

Analysis : Connor in the chapter before had wrecked the settee and a lot of furniture. This is why Connor asks his dad if he should be punished. His dad says no because there would be no point to it. I think this summary shows family and growing up because Connor is talking to his dad about what he had done. Connor also wants to go to the hospital for his mum but his dad tells him that he could pick him up if he wanted too.

Summary : The other night, Conor didn’t have a great sleep as he was woken up by the terrible nightmare. He went downstairs and his father was making breakfast for him. His father then implied that his mother had taken a turn and that his grandma had gone to hospital to talk to the doctors about her.

THEME : DEATH, DENIAL, ACCEPTANCE

Analysis :I believe the theme portrayed in this chapter is Death, Denial and Acceptance. I think this is the main theme in the chapter as Conor receives the news about his mother who has taken a turn and her conditioning is worsening and she might die. Conor does not take this news really badly, in fact he is quite calm and all he wants is to be with his mother. All Conor wants to do I think is push away the nightmares he is having about his mother and the monster.

Summary : Connor doesn’t do any work for school. No one talks to Connor or pays attention to him. Nobody tells him off for the way he’s acting. Harry comes at to Connor but Connor thinks this is a good thing because it feels normal. Harry goes to punch Connor but Connor yells for him to do it. Harry notices that Conor wants it to happen so Harry leaves him alone. It was like he was complete invisible to the rest of the world.

THEME: ISOLATION

Analysis : Connor acts in way that no one cares about him and that no one wants to talk to him at school. I think Connor feels like his isolated because in the book it says,”Like he was completely invisible to the rest of the world”.
