Once he was in, he knew it wasn't meant for him and got kicked out. He traveled to New York City, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Richmond for opportunities but still struggled. Eventually he won a contest in Baltimore Saturday Visiter for one his short stories, he began to publish more short stories. He finally landed as an editorial in 1835 for the Southern Literary Messenger in Richmond. Poe then moved to New York city and published a news story in the New York Sun, in 1844, about a balloon crossing the Atlantic Ocean and had also published "The Raven" in 1845. He was taken to the hospital of Washington College and 4 day later, he died. His last words were "Lord, help my poor soul".
