We learnt that Orange Shirt day is a special day to remember the Indigeonous peoples that were in residential schools. Some survived, and some didn't.
We think that the cruelty and injustice that was put upon the young and innocent kids is indecribable.
Children were stripped and out into different clothing. THey were forced to speak only English ,and were given new names,and were hit if they didn't follow the rules.
Their family tradiotons wre forgotten and they didn't remeber their past.
When they came home, parents couldn't remmeber their kids. Kids couldn't remmebr their parents and bonds and everlasting relationships were broken.
Thses devasting experiences were only closed in 1996.

It was based on an experience for Phyllis Webstad. Before Phyllis left, her grandmother bought her an orange shirt. When she got to school ,she was stripped and lost that orange shirt forever
