The photograph that best fits the description in lines 119-133 is titled "Five Cents a Spot." In this photo, several individuals have been tightly crammed into a small room where they almost have to lay on top of each other just to fit. This directly matches with line 130 to 133 which states (about the colored family of three), "Their rent was eight dollars and a half for a single room on the top-story, so small I was unable to get a photograph of it even by placing the camera outside the open door." The photo provides a visual example of a similar situation, which serves to impact the reader more deeply and make the situation seem more real. However it was the text that discussed the financial exploitation of the poor disguised as an altruistic service provided by the apartment owners.

One example of quantative evidence used in the text would be from lines 79-80 in which Riis stated that the Cholera epidemic in Gotham Court "...forced the general mortality of the city up from 1 in 4.83 in 1815, to 1 in 27.33 in 1855...". One example of expert testimony were in lines 94-96 which state "The Death of a childin a tenement was registered at the Bureau in the foul air of an unvenitlated apartment'...". Riis weaves together both kinds of evidence to increase his credibility with the readers and increase the impact on readers in hopes that they would make a change and preclude these atrocities from continuing.

Question 1 - Table 1

Table 1- Based on Lines 24-32, Riis wrote about how the wealthier people took advantage of the poor and their living conditions. According to the passage, the rich owned older houses of little value and took advantage of them by partition them into smaller sections so that they could rent it out to workers and people who lived in the streets at a considerable amount of money. That way, they would get remunerated for something that they no longer found useful. The ones at a disadvantage were the people who rented out these houses. Riis said that these rooms were separated "...without regard to light or ventilation..." and so germs and disease would spread more quickly. (Jacob Riis, "Genesis of the tenement" L,30) Riis obviously saw this as a very negative situation and an abuse to society, which is why he wrote this, to advise people of these injustices.

The video helps us to better understand the significance of the photograph entitled “Five Cents a Spot” by showing more detail into how it happened and explaining the effect that the picture had on people that saw it. The video explained how people of higher class were horrified after seeing this image with such a prolific amount of people all living in horrible and very cramped conditions. It also showed insight into how Jacob Riis would go into the tenements and take pictures without the people really realizing what is going on. This helped to better understand how the photograph was taken.
