Welcome to your first blog post.

You are going to write a post that evaluates how you used the style and form of Physical theatre to create a piece of drama symbolising the struggle of the creature when he is abandoned by Frankenstein. Use the model answer below to help you (I have also posted a definition of physical theatre separately.

CHALLENGE: Try to use alternative vocabulary to replace the word 'effective'.

Model Answer:

In my group we used the style and form of physical theatre to help set the scene and communicate how difficult it was for the creature abandoned in a scary city environment. We first stood in a line to create a wall that the creature was peering over and using to hide behind as he was scared. Then we transitioned into the shape of a train heading straight towards the creature. To make the physical movements even more powerful we used a sound scape of city noises like cars beeping and the rushing sound of the train. This emphasised how loud the city would be for the creature.

In my group we used style and form by showing in our still images how bad it is in the flat 13 and what happens when you are abandoned by Frankenstein. My group were first deciding what we will do for a still image then what we will do for a whole little act, then we actually stood and showed each other where we will stand and introduce new idea's. After we were looking at our act and still images and thought, if we needed anything but it was fine. We were bringing out more ideas but then we thought it would be difficult to join in the other piece with the new idea, so we just left it and carried on with our final piece.

In my group, we used physical theatre to act out the scene of what was outside Flat 13 and to make the outside world seem confusing to for the creature. There were buildings of the flats, a car driving and someone walking their dog. I was acting as the building for the dog and the women to walk out of. We also added soundscape to make the whole thing look more realistic for the creature. There were sounds of cars, trees swishing and the dog barking. Name: Sharmin

My group and i used style and form of physical theatre to create a piece of drama to show how hard it can be for the creature. We started our drama piece with two people (Fazana and i ) being the gates and we had some people being cars, airplanes, trees and buildings. After our role of being a gate we turned into buildings. We also added sound to show the little creature how a busy city will be like. The sound that we added were off cars driving fast, gates closing and the airplane flying in the air. All of the sounds and the acting of the style and form of physical theatre created a fine, outstanding and creative piece of drama. BY LYBA Ramzan

In my group, we portrayed the character in a busy city using productive physical theatre and soundscape. Our group included moving cars, buses, flashing street lamps, stray cats, and chiming clocks. This physical theatre was proven successful because the buses startled the monster and the bright street lights almost blinded it, leaving him crashing into other moving vehicles. We also added potent soundscape such as: bus noises, clock chimes, and cat noises. This highlighted the true actions during a rush hour in our city for the creature.

Physical theatre is anything that puts the human body at the centre of the storytelling process. As a result it’s often abstract in style, using movement in a styled and representation way. Physical theatre shows that you don't have to use words to express ideas. It uses techniques such as movement, mime, gesture and dance and can be used to explore complex social and cultural issues.

Our group used physical theatre to show the busy streets of the city. My partner and I were the clock and we used our arms as hands, our bodies as the clock and we made "tick, tick" and "ding, ding" noises. This is effective because as time rushes by it makes people panic. In this case the "person" panicking is Frankenstein's Monster. Also, we had noises of cars and other typical city noises. The effect this has on the audience is that it really represents that the creature is an outsider to the normal occurrences of this world because everyone has heard a car before. Also, the city we created using physical theatre contrasts the dark silence the creature is used to profoundly.

We used sound scape to identify destruction when he walked threw our city which was hard but we over came it i think one of the toughest parts of our role play was the fact that we couldn't have any people in our performance so we decided to improvise we added a still image with life like things then we went through a transition were we added noisy cars and busses and dogs barking in the distance and many other things this emphasised how it was portrayed to the audience if they saw what we hoped for them to see or if we had to improve.

in my group we used style and form of physical theatre by creating buildings, cars, and using soundscape to set the scene. and we used a bit of dialogue to enhance the atmosphere and the scene made the creature frankenstein wonder around not knowing what everything is. to make buildings we used two people facing each other and creating a triangle at the top with our arms and hands. this was to represent the room the creature was in. we used someone as a dog and created sounds of cars and construction. which made it quite loud for the creature
