Key Points:
- to be successful you need a wide variety of support. Such as, other teachers, students, administrators, librarians, and parents.
- selecting materials for your classroom/the school is a very important task. (whoever is making the selection, appropriate content, focuses on children's need & interests, balance is needed)
- involving parents and other community members is important for a school program to be successful
- an important quote that we found is "everything we do with books in schools should be measured against these criteria: will this help children enjoy books? will this help children become lifetime readers?"
- consider the following when evaluating children's literature:
availability, time, motivation, balance in the curriculum, growth as readers, growth as teachers

Key points:
Connecting Literature to Life.
- Kids really enjoy looking at pictures and maps in books so they can connect them to their real life.
- Jackdaws, resources from historical events from different time periods and educators could use these for activities to show them what was happening during that specific time. As well as teaching them about history, the students may create their own sources materials about the time they live in.
- Teachers need to realize that over analyzing a book for too long may cause the child lose interest in what the subject is discussing.
- Also when trying to analyze books about time, to help students, create time lines to help them visualize what is happening when reading and understanding time periods.
