I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you Dr for guiding us throughout the semester. I have genuinely enjoyed the wildlife lecture sessions.

Hard to decide but I would go with carnivores.

No uninteresting topics however the lesser interesting topics would be reptiles.

The zoo visit helped me to understand and remember certain points in the enclosure design. For instance the perching area for Falcon should not be angled and smooth as it predisposes the bird to pododermatitis. I'm confident I'll remember this for a long time and take note of it the next time I visit a zoo.

I personally think we should learn more about owls. There is very little known about them. They also have a major role as pest control in the biggest agro-sector of Malaysia the oil palm plantation.

I also never expected to learn about invertebrates, especially centipedes, which were very new and interesting to me. The zoo visit helped me recognize any lack in the enclosures and also understand the animals’ behaviour, as we had already learned the theory before going to the zoo. It helped me recall everything I had learned and try to apply it in real-life situations.

I would love it if we could have more field trips. It would also be better if Dr could explain each animal at every enclosure as we walk through the zoo together. Of course, more hands-on activities would be great, as they help us remember things more easily compared to just learning theoretically. Lastly, maybe we could have a wildlife rota??? hehe >.<

And we can compare in the zoo what are the abnormal or the things in the enclosure that lead the animal to show abnormal behaviour. So next time any zoo visit i dont just look what animal that are present but also look at the enclosure and are they suitable for the animal.

It would be great to have field trips where we can open our mind and can compare more enclosure designs and their managements. Besides that, it will be good to have practical sessions or more video sessions such as the PERHILITAN video you showed with us in the class. Where it also helps us see clearer what is happening in the wild or how they handled it.

Overall this course is very interesting where I get to learn the things that are not commonly teached such as penguins, marine mammals, and others. Thank you Dr and have a nice day. <3

I feel like we already learnt a lot regarding fish in aquatic health (kind of overlapping). For invertebrates and reptiles, I still in trauma of getting bites by spiders, centipedes and snakes before. If I have to treat them in the future, I will definitely ask others to restrain them.

I enjoyed a lot during the zoo visit. After the zoo visit, I learned to identify and differentiate some animal species (eg: difference between timor deer vs sambar deer vs axis deer). I also learned to observe their enclosure, diet, and natural behavior. Some animals in the Kuala Krai Zoo expressed abnormal behavior, which may be lack of enrichment or disturbance from visitors. In term of diets, some of the feeds were placed on floor, contaminated with animal feces. Suggestions for improvement should be given to the management team of the zoo.

More field trip in the future.

My favourites are carnivores, small mammals, reptiles and penguins!

Personally, I am not very interested in invertebrate and fish medicine hehe and as we are also taking an Aquatic Medicine course this semester, I was wondering if there might be some overlap in the fish medicine content. Perhaps the time allocated for fish medicine in this course could be considered for other wildlife medicine topics, since fish medicine is already covered in the Aquatic Medicine course ehe

The zoo visit was very helpful in reinforcing my understanding and application of husbandry, management, and suitable enclosure design for different species that we learned in class. The assignment given prior to the zoo visit really encouraged us to think critically and gave us clear aspects to focus on during the visit. This helped me to actively analyse the zoo conditions and consider possible improvements from a veterinarian’s perspective, rather than treating the visit as just a leisure activity hehe However, I feel the experience could have been even more impactful if the Dr could guide us throughout the zoo visit.

I really appreciate it when Dr shares your real-life practical experiences with wildlife animals. These experiences helped me to better visualise what working with wildlife animals is like. I am very interested in working with wildlife or in a zoo setting in the future. In addition, I would greatly appreciate having more practical sessions, as I learn best when practical components are included alongside theoretical teaching.

Thank you very much, Dr Sandie, for your dedication in teaching us exotic and wildlife animal medicine. I understand that it is a very broad subject to cover, and I truly appreciate how you managed to present the content in a clear and easy to understand way. Thank you for all your hard work Dr! I really enjoyed learning from you <3

Overall exposure to exotic and wildlife animal studies has greatly enhanced my interest and understanding in this field!! . Learning about marine mammal medicine broadened my perspective on species-specific health management, particularly in relation to specialized anatomy, nutrition, and medical care. Hands-on which i initially curious in animal handling which i hope later for the juniors can experience and anesthesia improved my confidence in managing non-domestic species safely and effectively. Additionally, knowledge gained on feeding strategies, zoo and enclosure nutrition, and the management of hoofstock animals highlighted the importance of proper husbandry in disease prevention and welfare. Overall, this learning experience has strengthened my enthusiasm to further explore and develop skills in exotic and wildlife veterinary medicine soon in Sha Allah. Please do more field work with wildlife in the future Dr huhu i want it

I enjoyed all the topics, but I especially liked hoofstock and avians.

My least favorite topic was invertebrates because I am not interested in them and found them very difficult to handle, as I always felt discomfort when looking at them.

Through the zoo trip, I was able to gain knowledge about the animal husbandry practices of each animal in the zoo. It was enjoyable to witness theoretical concepts being applied in real-life situations. I was also able to appreciate the differences between good and poor management, which helped me think critically about the improvements the zoo could implement to enhance their overall management and animal welfare.

I would like to suggest incorporating more field trips and practical-based learning methods to help students better understand the course, as these approaches are more engaging and enjoyable than learning theory alone. In addition, practical sessions such as restraint and handling of companion and exotic animals could be included to further sharpen our skills and enhance our practical knowledge.
