½Miss Mary's room isn't like most crime stories. The main subject in most crime stories is to solve a crime of some sort. This story is completely opposite, where the criminal is the main character and we hear how he gets into crime, performs crime and gets away with the crime we can for example see that in the text where it says "As we got older, Rollo began to front us pounds of weed that we would split into ounces and off to our friends. In that way, Rollo expanded his business in our neighborhood, and me and Pat got free weed to smoke. It was a good deal for all of us. ". We don't even hear anything about the story from a policeman's perspective. we only know a little bit about the investigation where it says " Turns out, the police had been watching Rollo for some time. "
So in that way, it's pretty special.

Realism
The story is very realistic in the sense of environment and culture that is Baltimore, which
is an important factor in the crime genre when you need the reader to get caught up.

Characters
In the story, the main character is named Tim.
He comes from a bad home environment where he probably doesn't know his dad, and where his mother seems to be involved with drugs and bad people "My mother was there, and one of her meth-tweak boyfriends too. Man with a ponytail and a skinny behind." This is also reflected in his behavior, where he in a young age starts using drugs and soon after starts dealing it. He also feels kind of cold-hearted when he without hesitation help killing his best friend

Plot
The plot is actually like most crime stories, where we start with a problem, tries to find a solution, and then solves it.
Instead, in this story the problem is the police closing in on them, then Rollo and Tim finds the solution, and then they solve the problem by killing Pad.
There is also a clear reveal moment in the story where they out of nothing shoots Pad when they are talking about their childhood.

BOGAR IS MY FRIEND AND SUCK HIM DOWN

Miss Mary’s room is a crime fiction story, which takes place in Baltimore, Maryland. It is definitely not a coincidence that the writer, Pelicanos, chose the city Baltimore as the setting. To begin with Baltimore is the biggest city in the state of Maryland which is characteristic for a crime fiction story to choose a bigger known city so it is easier to have some kind of relation when it is realistic. In addition to that Baltimore is also known for its many riots throughout the years between gangs consisting of black people as the major race. This is also seen in the story where Rollo, who is an older black guy, misleads Pat and Tim into criminality and drugs, (p. 82 l. 3-6) “Me and Pat started smoking weed when we were 14 years old. This boy named Rollo, a dealer with a genuine rep who lived down in the apartments, turned us on to it. Rollo was 20 at the time.”
