In this song, Kendrick tells a story of a young 17-year-old girl who turned to prostitution in order to survive. This lifestyle eventually got her killed in a car by one of her customers. This story ties in with The Piped Piper of Tucson because Schmid drives around popular places to pick up girls who are far younger than him. In the story, he kills a 15-year-old girl named Allene, a 17-year-old girl named Gretchen, and a 13-year-old girl named Wendy.

In this song, Khalid takes the point of view of someone who has committed suicide and wishes to have another chance at life in order to apologize to his loved ones for the actions he took. In the story, sisters Gretchen and Wendy get murdered by Schmitt. Therefore, in this case, Gretchen would be the one wishing a second chance for either her and Wendy or just for Wendy. Gretchen would want to do things alternatively in order to prevent the death of Wendy and herself or to at least try and save her young sister who did not deserve to have her life taken at a very young age.

In this song, Lucas is talking to god in an angry tone because he has taken the lives of people who deserve to live but is keeping the evil people standing. He is asking God to trade numerous people like 2pac, Xxxtentacion, and Selena for Tomi Lauren, Donald Trump, and R. Kelly. This song correlates to the article because the families of the three girls who were murdered are most likely questioning god the same way Lucas is. In this song, 6lack emphasizes empathy by telling his audience to "switch" in order to experience the adversities and obstacles he is facing. This can be applied to the article because it mentions that the three girls who were murdered were of secondary importance to the people of Tucson. The two families must have been going through a difficult time especially when the killer was not yet discovered. In this song, Mereba gets political by introducing police brutality and past mistreatment of African Americans. She is telling her audience to run as far and fast from evil men who desire to mistreat them. This can also be applied to the Fritz sisters and Schmitt where the sister would be the ones running fast and far into safety in order to survive evil, in this case being Schmitt who ends up murdering both girls.
