I've spent some of my summer here in Chapel Hill welcoming a few hundred international teachers who will be working in North Carolina schools. Exciting, right?

Now for some interesting facts about Nova Scotia, Canada - where I am from originally:

1) No point in Nova Scotia is more than 60 kilometers (about 37 miles) from the ocean! 

2) Britain still technically owns part of the province of Nova Scotia! Point Pleasant Park is located in our capital of Halifax and the city rents the site from the British government for 10 cents a year (on a 999 year lease).

2) In Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia, there is a place called the Chapel Hill Museum and Sea Tower - a former church that is on a hill known as Chapel Hill. Pretty interesting since I now live in Chapel Hill, North Carolina!

Fun fact about Ethiopia: it has its own calendar, with 13 months. The new year starts on September 11 ...and it will be 2010 here!
