An Omen comes from the natural world to deliver a message. The message typically has to do with the future. Omens can show good and evil events. Omens can occur through visions or dreams. A sign usually has a meaning that is not the sign itself. It can be something tangible that represents something spiritual.

The trope omens and signs primarily uses pathos. If the omen is something dark, like the grim, you might feel scared or worried for the character. If the omen is something good then you will feel happy for that character. Kairos is also important. Omens and signs usually appear just before that event is going to happen. Omens are warning you of an event that will happen.
