The shifting of continents, expanding of coasts, and widening of oceans had made the climate cooler and more moist. The atmosphere at this time had high atmospheric oxygen levels. The change in climate also set into motion extreme changes to the native plant and animal life. At the beginning of the period, dinosaurs were still abundant, however by the end of the period dinosaurs became extinct. During this period, some big evolutionary developments took place, such as the first flowering plants appearing and new dinosaurs appearing.
