Impact on society

The Salem witch trials posed so much of an impact on modern society that new words were invented to describe this kind of event happening in the future. a popular example of this is the red scare where people were accused for being Communists instead of witches. many aspects of the red scare are very similar to the Salem witch trials. and one play in particular focused on that exactly. The Crucible by Arthur Miller was written during the red scare after he himself was called up to testify if he was or knew any Communists in Hollywood. He did not reply to any questions causing further controversy being added to his name. He eventually, to cast light on the whole situation, wrote a play drawing the connections between the red scare and the Salem witch trials. This play was known as The Crucible

The Puritans believed that they must make a model city in order to please God. The "City on a Hill" they copied from Jesus. In order to make this happen, everybody must participate in religious events. Everybody must believe the same way and behave the same way according the Puritan faith. These people also believed that any bad to happen to city was the result of Satan and his minions. Satan would also have minions on Earth in form of witches and wizards according to the Puritans meaning that anyone caught doing any witch-like things would be in deep trouble. The Pope eventually made Witchcraft a crime against the Church and the state that was punishable by death. This base-line fear of witches and the laws placed around these figures would end up becoming the downfall of the town of Salem's once good name.

In the year 1620, Massachusetts bay saw a new type of community arrive on their beaches for the first time. These people had modern clothing for the time, up to date communication styles and words, but a very different style of beliefs. These people believed that the Catholic Church was too ritualistic along with the orthodox religions. These newcomers sought to purify the church of England to make it suitable for them. These folks were called the Puritans. These people established villages around the coast of MA. They spread their beliefs and influenced many nearing communities. These people will eventually be a part of an event that will spoil their name for centuries. The Salem Witch Trials.

The four girls effected by Tituba's ways were now leading the hunt for witches. They would abuse their new power to receive any revenge or special treatment the wanted to their heart's content. They would act as if possessed to get people convicted. They would point and draw attention to the accused in order destroy their reputation in the courtroom. They did whatever it took to become famous. This action of corrupting the power of these girls will eventually provide a new meaning to the term "witch hunt". These girls abuse their power to get rid of any person they don't like. it's absolutely despicable.

The mayhem of the Salem witch trials began when four girls were babysat by a slave women. This woman, named Tituba, believed in the ways of voodoo. She tought the girls various spells and enchantments to lure townspeople to do their bidding. Later on, the girls began experiencing complete physical and mental breakdowns. They would be ill for periods of time as well as act completely disrespectful and chaotic. Their parents grabbed the attention of the local medical professionals seeking help to cure their children. The doctors had not the slightest clue as to what was occurring in these young women. They addressed the cause as witchcraft. What happened to these girls will alter how the town of Salem addresses witchcraft as a whole. Even though witchcraft was a deathly offence, puritan officers began to take accusations and trials to a new extreme.
