I think he also meant that his father is a bad person and he didn't want him to be Jupiter's grandfather.
When I found out that Maddie was dead I didn't believe it. I felt as if Maddie's parents had framed her death. Joseph might also not want his father to like make him feel even worse about being 14 and having a kid.
