He was known for being a more benevolent leader than his predecessors. While mostly known by many for his limb, slight deafness, and rise to power. Claudius's reign was filled with many great accomplishments. He was mostly know during his reign for his conquest of Britannia in 43 AD (present day Great Britain). He wanted to prove himself to the senate (who unlike most emperors did not support him due to him being seen as weak.) so he conquered Britain. He is also known for his economic and military reforms such as granting citizenship to auxiliaries who have served at least 35 years and offering insurances to importers of goods such as grain. He was also known for his judicial reforms that created a safety net for the powerless, helped sick slaves, and increased citizenship . This nephew of Tiberius and uncle of Caligula was known for having slight deafness and a limb. He also had embarrassing habits like frothing up in the mouth when annoyed. Due to that, he was often made fun of or excluded at most family gatherings. But Claudius was smart too, he used this disability over the years to keep from getting assassinated. The only public office before emperor he ever had was a personal consul to Caligula. He then came to become emperor after Caligula was assassinated by his Praetorian guard .Seen as a good puppet leader, they found him cowering behind a curtain in the palace and installed him as emperor.

Claudius was also very well know for his poor taster in woman. Most of his spouses were just with him for money or power. In fact, he was murdered when it was suspected that his wife Agripinna poisoned him to get her son and Claudius's adopted son into power.
