Symptoms:

hot flashes, vaginal dryness, sleep disturbances, weight gai, depression/anxiety, difficulty concentrating, memory problems, reduced libido, or sex drive, dry skin, mouth, and eyes, headaches, racing heart, painful or stiff joints, and hair thinning or loss.
Diagnoses:

A new blood test known as the PicoAMH Elisa diagnostic test was recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration Trusted Source. This test is used to help determine whether a woman has entered menopause or is getting close to entering menopause

Your doctor can also order a blood test that will measure the level of certain hormones in the blood, usually FSH and a form of estrogen called estradiol.
Treatments:

Women with low progesterone, especially during or near menopause, might receive hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The treatment combines progestin and estrogen in a pill or skin patch. You might also get a cream or spray that you can apply directly to the vagina. HRT can help relieve symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness.
Recent Studies:
There are indications, for better cognitive performance and delayed cognitive decline, supporting a link between female hormone deficiency and cognitive aging. Current literature limitations, indicated by the heterogeneous study-set, point towards research priorities in this clinically relevant area. Recent evidence suggests that early or induced menopause increases the risk for cognitive impairment and dementia. Given the potential for different cognitive outcomes due to menopause types, it is important that present research on menopause and cognition distinguishes between types. We found that when menopause types are distinguished, the differing cognitive outcomes of each type are clarified, yielding the strongest evidence, which in turn will be able to inform best clinical practice for treating all women.

Progesterone: plays important roles in the menstrual cycle and in maintaining the early stages of pregnancy. Progesterone prepares the endometrium for the potential of pregnancy after ovulation. It triggers the lining to thicken to accept a fertilized egg. It also prohibits the muscle contractions in the uterus that would cause the body to reject an egg. While the body is producing high levels of progesterone, the body will not ovulate.

Estrogen: is a sex hormone responsible for the development and regulation of the female reproductive system and secondary sex characteristics.

Estrogen enables Ovaries, Vagina, Uterus, and Breasts to function

An important relation the ovary has is with the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland is a small pea-sized gland that plays a major role in regulating vital body functions and general wellbeing. It is referred to as the body's 'master gland' because it controls the activity of most other hormone-secreting glands. The function of the ovaries is controlled by hormone released from nerve cells in the hypothalamus which send their messages to the pituitary gland to produce luteinising hormone and follicle stimulating hormone. These are carried in the bloodstream to control the menstrual cycle.

Manifestations hypersecretion and hyposecretion

Firstly, hypersecretion is when an excess of one or more hormone is secreted from a gland; hyposecretion is when the amount of hormones are released is too low. High levels of estrogen can develop naturally, but too much estrogen can also result from taking certain medications. Polycystic ovary syndrome is associated with hypersecretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) which has been implicated in the aetiology of early pregnancy loss. Although 82% of women with recurrent early loss have polycystic ovaries on ultrasound imaging, random serum LH concentrations are normal. For hyposecretion, estrogen works in alongside calcium, vitamin D, and other minerals to keep bones strong. If estrogen levels are low, you may experience decreased bone density.
In women over age 40, low estrogen can be a sign of approaching menopause. This time of transition is called perimenopause. During perimenopause your ovaries will still produce estrogen. Production will continue to slow until you reach menopause. When you’re no longer producing estrogen, you’ve reached menopause. Women between the ages of 25 to 50 who are estrogen deficient are generally prescribed a high dose of estrogen. This can reduce the risk of bone loss, cardiovascular disease, and other hormonal imbalances.
