Bonobos was founded by Stanford business school students Andy Dunn and Brian Splay, and launched as an online retailer in 2007. To get their name out into public, they would walk around their college campus and let people try their new modern fitting pants, and they would sell them for $100 a pop. The new men’s wear company was slowly on the rise, to boost their local popularity, Dunn and Splay would find people to help them throw what they called “pants parties”. After their first party, they sold over $1600 dollars worth of pants. It was after this that they realized that they could turn their small apartment business into something big.

It all started when Dunn was upset he couldn't find a pair of dress pants with the correct fit. So, him and his business parter decided to sew their own pants. After making these pants they decided to continue to make more and more pants and eventually decided to start selling them. When they first started in 2007, they knew an internet-only retail store was not an obvious choice. But after selling so many pants around their college campus and out the back of their cars, they decided to take to the internet.
