Through this project, I hope we will explore our linguistic roots, exchange cultural values, and discover that, despite our different languages, our life lessons connect us all. I am a teacher of English in Varnenska morska gimnazia, Varna, Bulgaria. I have been working on eTwinning for a year and a half and I have participated in 6 projects so far. My students get involved in different extracurricular activities, get in touch with students from other countries, and learn new skills. I, too, am always learning new things.

In my free time, I enjoy listening to music and dancing. I am also a big fan of historical series about China and Korea.

My favourite proverb is: "In for a penny, in for a pound." (Щом си се хванал на хорото, ще го играеш докрай.) I simply don't like leaving things unfinished!

As a participant in this project, I would like to learn more about Romanian proverbs and their meanings. I find proverbs interesting because, in just a few simple words, they can convey an important lesson, piece of advice, or life experience.

One Romanian proverb I like is “Buturuga mică răstoarnă carul mare/ A small leak will sink a great ship”, which expresses the idea that we should never underestimate small things or people who may seem unimportant. I like its message because it reminds us that, through ambition, perseverance, and confidence, we can achieve important things, even when they seem difficult at first.

I hope this project will be an enjoyable and creative experience that will help me discover new proverbs and understand their messages better. In the end, I would like to see proverbs not only as expressions, but also as small life lessons that we can apply to everyday situations.

In my free time, I enjoy playing football with my friends, reading history books, and exploring technology and computer programming.

I chose to recommend the Romanian proverb "Nu da vrabia din mână pe cioara de pe gard" (English equivalent: "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush") because it reflects a practical and realistic mindset. It serves as a valuable reminder to appreciate and secure the tangible opportunities and achievements I currently have, rather than risking everything for uncertain possibilities in the future.

Historically, Romanian society has valued wisdom, caution, and resourcefulness, three qualities shaped by times when stability and security were hard to guarantee. This wisdom encourages protecting what has already been earned and making decisions grounded in reality, a perspective that remains deeply rooted in our cultural ethos.

My favourite hobbies are reading and watching movies. I like reading because books can take me to different worlds and help me discover new ideas. I also enjoy watching movies because they are entertaining and help me relax.

My favourite proverb is “Ce-a fost, a fost.” In English, a similar expression is “What’s done is done.” In Spanish, we can say “Lo hecho, hecho está,” and in Bulgarian, “Каквото било — било.”

I like this proverb because it teaches us that we cannot change the past. We can learn from our mistakes, but we should not regret anything that has happened. Instead, we should accept the past and focus on the future. I think this is an important lesson because life is about moving forward and becoming a better person.

For this eTwinning project, I chose the Romanian proverb 'Așchia nu sare departe de trunchi' ('The apple doesn't fall far from the tree'). To me, this saying is a reminder that we carry our roots and heritage with us, no matter where life takes us.

Through this project, I expect to develop a wide range of digital, social, and practical skills.

My passions are reading and watching movies. I especially enjoy reading fiction because I love getting lost in different stories and discovering new characters and worlds. I also enjoy watching movies in my free time, especially when I want to relax.

My favourite Romanian proverb is “Câinele care latră nu mușcă - A barking dog never bites”. I like this proverb because it reminds me that people who make a lot of noise or threaten others are not always the ones who actually do something. Sometimes, the people who talk the most are less dangerous than they seem. For me, it is a reminder not to be easily intimidated by words and to pay more attention to actions.

The equivalent expression in Spanish is “Perro ladrador, poco mordedor.” It has the same meaning: someone who threatens or talks aggressively a lot is usually less likely to actually act.

A Romanian proverb that I really like is “Apa trece, pietrele rămân”. In English, "Men may come and men may go, but the earth abides forever", in Bulgarian: Водата изтича, камъните остават (Vodata izticha, kamǎnite ostavat), in Spanish: Las palabras se las lleva el viento, las obras quedan / Todo pasa y todo queda, in Turkish: Su akar, taş kalır, in Croatian: Voda teče, kamenje ostaje, and in Polish: Woda upływa, kamienie zostająit.

I think this proverb teaches us that life is always changing, but some things remain important and valuable. Problems and difficult moments will eventually pass, but our values, memories, and the people who truly matter to us can remain.

I like Romanian culture in general, and proverbs in particular, and I believe it is important to respect and preserve our culture while also being open to other cultures and ideas.

Through this project, I expect to learn more about Romanian culture, traditions, and values. I also hope to improve my English vocabulary and communication skills. I want to discover new things about my country and understand why it is important to preserve our traditions. I believe this project will help me become more confident and appreciate my culture even more.

I truly believe that beautiful, respectful, and gentle words can help us achieve good things. By communicating calmly and politely, we can gain people’s trust, avoid conflicts, and solve certain problems more easily. The proverb teaches us to be careful about the way we speak to those around us.

I think this proverb is interesting because it is used in everyday conversations and has a similar meaning in many cultures. For instance, in Polish, the equivalent is "Ciekawość to pierwszy stopień do piekła" (literally: "Curiosity is the first step to hell").

In my free time, I like playing video games, listening to music, watching movies and spending time with my friends.

The proverb I chose is “Prietenul la nevoie se cunoaște - A friend in need is a friend indeed” because true friends help you when you have problems. This is important in Romanian culture because friendship, loyalty and helping others are highly valued, just like in other cultures: Bulgarian: Priyatel v nuzhda se poznava (Приятел в нужда се познава); Spanish: En las malas se conoce a los amigos; Turkish: Dost kara günde belli olur; Croatian: U nevolji se poznaje pravi prijatelj; Polish: Prawdziwych przyjaciół poznaje się w biedzie.

I would describe myself as a very friendly, open, and easygoing person who loves meeting new people. My main passions are travelling and listening to music - they are my favourite ways to relax and discover new vibes. I am a supportive friend and always ready to help others, which helps me connect easily with people from different backgrounds.

My favourite Romanian proverb is „Mai bine mai târziu decât niciodată”/ “Better late than never”.

I chose this proverb because it reminds me that it is never too late to try something new, to learn or to achieve a goal. Sometimes things take longer than we expect, but what matters is that we do not give up. This proverb motivates me to keep trying, even when something seems difficult.

Proverbs from our country are important because they are an important part of our culture and traditions. They contain the wisdom and experiences of people from the past and teach us valuable lessons about life and our national identity.

In my free time, I love playing ping-pong and drawing. Ping-pong keeps me active and focused, while drawing allows me to express my creativity - a skill I consider to be one of my main talents.

The Romanian proverb I chose is "Câinele care latră nu mușcă"/ "Barking dogs seldom bite" (Spanish: "Perro que ladra no muerde").

This proverb means that people who make the loudest threats or appear very aggressive rarely take actual action. In Romanian culture, it is often used to reassure someone not to be intimidated by angry words or threats, reminding us to stay calm and look beyond appearances.

My favourite hobbies are reading and folk dancing. I like reading because books are interesting, some can be very mysterious. I also like folk dances because they make me feel connected to Romanian traditions and culture and I like the energy that the dances transmit.

My favourite proverb is “Lupul își schimbă părul, dar năravul ba”. The English proverb is "A leopard cannot change its spots". To share the same idea, a wolf is used in Bulgarian (Вълкът козината си мени, но нрава – не), Croatian (Vuk dlaku mijenja, ali ćud nikada), and Polish (Natura ciągnie wilka do lasu), while Spanish turns to goats or character (Genio y figura hasta la sepultura / La cabra siempre tira al monte) and Turkish focuses on ingrained habits (Huylu huyundan vazgeçmez / Can çıkar, huy çıkmaz). I like this proverb because it conveys a simple, yet true message: people can change their appearance or behaviour, but it is difficult for them to change their character or habits. I also like it because it is easy to understand and memorable.

Bulgarian: Всяко нещо с времето си (Vsyako neshto s vremeto si), Spanish: Cada cosa a su tiempo, Turkish: Her şeyin bir zamanı var, Croatian: Sve u своё vrijeme and Polish: Wszystko w swoim czasie.

I like this proverb because it reminds me that everything happens at the right moment. It teaches us to be patient and to accept that not everything can happen when we want it to. I believe that every period of our lives has its own meaning, and we should enjoy each moment instead of always thinking about what comes next. Through this project, I hope to explore the meaning of this proverb and understand how its lesson can be applied to everyday life.

One of my favourite Romanian proverbs of all time is "Omul cât trăiește învață". In English, it is "Live and learn", in Bulgarian, “Човек се учи, докато е жив,” in Turkish, “İnsan yaşadığı sürece öğrenir,” in Croatian, “Čovjek uči dok je živ,” and, in Spanish, “El hombre aprende mientras vive.”
This proverb means that we never stop learning. Throughout our lives, we learn new things at school, from other people, from our experiences and even from our mistakes.
I like this proverb because I think it has a really positive message. It reminds us that there is always something new to learn and that we can continue to grow and improve throughout our lives. 💕

The Romanian proverb I chose is: “Prin muncă și stăruință vei ajunge la dorință”, which translates into English: “Through work and perseverance, you will reach your desire”. Similar ideas would translate into Turkish: “Çalışarak ve sebat ederek istediğine ulaşırsın”, and Spanish: ”Con trabajo y perseverancia alcanzarás tus deseos”.

In our culture it is important because it means that success and the fulfillment of dreams depend on constant effort and perseverance.

Today, I would like to talk about the Romanian proverb “După faptă și răsplată”, whose English version is “One good turn deserves another”.

This proverb means that our actions have consequences. If we do good things and treat people with respect, we are more likely to receive good things in return. On the other hand, if we do something wrong, we may have to face negative consequences.

This proverb is important in Romanian culture because it reflects traditional values such as hard work, responsibility, honesty and respect for others. It teaches us that we should think carefully about our actions because, sooner or later, we will receive the consequences of what we do.

In my opinion, this is an important lesson for everyone: the way we treat others and the choices we make can shape our future.

I am 16 years old, and I am a third-year high school student at Pijarska School in Poland.

Some of my hobbies are drawing, singing, reading books, and watching movies.

The Polish proverb I have chosen is "Krew jest gęstsza od wody" (English: "Blood is thicker than water".) It means that family relationships and genetic ties are stronger, deeper, and more important than other relationships, such as friendships.

Although I cannot fully agree with this idea, I must admit that this proverb caught my attention because of its creativity.

My favourite proverb, though it is not known much even in Turkiye, is 'Fakirin hasta olduğu evde tavuk pişince anlaşılır'. It has a story. In old days of Turkiye, calling a doctor at home was really very expensive for poors. So they mostly cooked a chicken to make the patient better as chicken meat is thought to have a healing effect on the person.

I don't know if there is a similar one in your language.

I’m a 16-year-old 10th-grade student from Türkiye. As part of our eTwinning project, I would like to talk about a very popular proverb that we use all the time in my country: "Bana arkadaşını söyle, sana kim olduğunu söyleyeyim."

If I translate it word-for-word into English, it literally means: "Tell me who your friend is, and I'll tell you who you are."

In Turkish culture, this proverb is used to show how much our friends influence us. We believe that the people we spend time with reflect our character, values, and habits. Over time, we may start thinking or behaving like our close friends. So, if someone wants to understand what kind of person you are, they can simply look at the people you spend time with.

While doing some research for our project, I was really surprised to discover that many other countries have almost the same proverb! Here is how it appears in the languages of our project partners:

Spanish: In Spain, people say "Dime con quién andas, y te diré quién eres." This means "Tell me who you walk with, and I'll tell you who you are." It is very similar to the Turkish version!

Romanian: Our friends in Romania use "Spune-mi cu cine te însoțești, ca să-ți spun cine ești." It means "Tell me who you keep company with, so I can tell you who you are." Once again, the meaning is almost identical!

Bosnian: In Bosnia and Herzegovina, people say "Reci mi s kim se družiš, pa ću ti reći ko si." (or sometimes simply "S kim si, takav si.") It translates as "Tell me who you spend time with, and I'll tell you who you are." It has the same idea and structure.

English: In English, people sometimes use a direct translation, but the closest common expression is "Birds of a feather flock together." This means that people who are similar in character or interests often spend time together.

It is amazing to see that, although we live in different countries and speak different languages, we share similar life lessons and wisdom.

I chose the proverb "Don't cast-off your coat until the 40 of May". I chose this because it is typical of my area due to the high temperatures in my community.
I am very happy with this project because I think everyone can learn a lot from it.

My name is Szymon, and I am 17 years old. I am a third-year student at Pijarskie Liceum in Poland.

My main hobby is reading. I enjoy reading about almost anything that I find interesting. I am also interested in history and cooking. I love learning about the past, trying new recipes, and discovering new flavours.

My favourite proverb is "Nie wchodzi się dwa razy do tej samej rzeki," which in English can be translated as "You can't step into the same river twice". Although it may not be considered a traditional proverb, I find its meaning very powerful. It reminds us that everything is constantly changing and that nothing stays exactly the same.

For me, it does not only mean that we should not repeat our mistakes or return to the past. It also shows that when we come back to something, both we and the world around us may have changed.

My name is Zuzanna. I am 16 years old and I'm a third-year student at Pijarskie High School of the Queen of Peace in Łowicz, Poland. My biggest hobby is drawing, but I also like writing and learning languages—for example, right now I'm learning Japanese. For me, this proverb also represents the importance of being responsible, hardworking and positive. I also think that this proverb can be connected to our future. We should not wait for everything around us to become perfect before taking action. This proverb is used when a person appears unexpectedly just as they are being talked about, often to warn the other to stop talking immediately.

The phrase originated and evolved through a combination of Roman theater (“Lupus in fabula”), superstitious beliefs, and classical literature.

I think it's impressive that this ancient proverb is still used today and has spread so widely. It’s also become a sort of inside joke among my friends, so I find it funny whenever I hear it.

My goal is to graduate from my school successfully and make many different friends from other nations. I like reading books and embroidering flowers, but I spend most of my free time watching films.

I have searched for many proverbs for our eTwinning project. It was hard to choose because in Turkish we have so many precious proverbs with rich stories behind them. In the end, I chose a short but lovely proverb: 'Çam sakızı, çoban armağanı'.

This proverb means that a gift's cost, value, or size doesn't matter if you are giving it with sincerity, genuine feelings, and pure intentions. There is also a special reason why it mentions 'çam sakızı' (pine resin). In the past, shepherds living in villages across Anatolia would collect the resin dripping from pine trees while grazing their animals in the mountains. Even though the shepherds were poor, they would give pine resin as gifts, and that is how this proverb came to be.

I searched for similar proverbs from other nations - for example, in the Romanian language: 'Cine dă puțin, dă cu inimă', in Bulgarian: 'Дар от сърце се помни', and in Polish: 'Mały dar, wielkie serce'.

One of my main hobbies is listening to music, followed by drawing! I love listening to music and discovering new genres and subgenres. Music brings me peace and joy, especially when I’m travelling somewhere. I think everyone should make listening to music a hobby because music helps me understand my own feelings and expresses the words that are sometimes hard to say out loud.

I also love drawing, which is one of my skills! Although it sometimes makes me feel tense, drawing allows me to express my creativity and ideas. I like experimenting with different styles and techniques, and it also teaches me to pay attention to small details.

Other things I enjoy are watching movies, reading, learning new things, and studying foreign languages. Currently, I’m learning Greek, and I really hope I will be able to speak it well one day, along with English! My current favourite movies are Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Fight Club. I would recommend them because of their aesthetics and plots.

From this project, I really hope to learn many new things and find out more about other countries, their cultures, traditions, and maybe even their history! I also hope this project will help me feel more confident when speaking English.

I'm 16 years old, and I go to Pijarskie Liceum in Łowicz, Poland.

I really like history, sports (e.g. football and F1), reading books, and watching Marvel movies (Team Iron Man, of course!).

My favourite proverb is “Co nagle, to po diable”. The English equivalent is “Haste makes waste”. It means that when we rush something too much, we are more likely to make mistakes or ruin it. I know it sounds a bit pessimistic, but I agree with it. I believe it is better to do things slowly and carefully than rush and ruin everything.
