My reflection by

The first poster presentation for me was difficult, because there are not any similar poster presentations in my university before.

Chuk divided our class into different groups, we had 3 people first, two Chinese and a Turk. We came up with a lot of ideas. And finally we choose the diversity food to express the topic of multiculturalism. Initially we thought about what kind of cuisines we should focus on,and what the backgrounds of these restaurants are in the UK. And how the immigrants came to here. After telling our ideas to my tutor, he said we should pay more attention to the reasons of multiculturalism and the influence of multiculturalism. We also met a challenge of the communication with my groups. We were not familiar with each other, and we had different timetable,so it was difficult to make a appointment with each other. My assignment in the group was to find the religion, history and development of British Chinese food and Chinese immigrants.I also had to compare the difference between authentic Chinese food and the British Chinese food.

After reading a lot of resources on the internet and going to several famous Chinese British restaurant,I paraphrased and summarized them to write my part. The most challenge thing for me was I had to read so much articles and summarized them.

Fortunately, our teachers told us a method to trigger this problem, which was topic reading. Scanning, skimming, predicting, intensively reading and extensively reading. After reading for several times, I found I could grasp the important information and the key points of these essays. I thought it was a waste of time initially, because these essays often were too long and hard to read, once I found a new words, I had to look out the dictionary frequently. But after trying the way of purpose reading, it saved as twice time as the previous way, the reason being is that I did not need to read in so much details, I mean just consider I can guess the new words by the context.

For the future poster presentation or other essay writing, I will try this effective way of reading some resources.

Regarding the trip of the Red Brick Lane, I experienced and learned a lot about the history and multiculturalism of the East London. Although sometimes I could not grasp some words such as mineral, mosque( I sound as Moscow and felt strange at that time) ,with the help of my classmates and my tutors I enjoyed my journey.Not to mentioned thanks to the cold weather, we had to gather together to make us warm, which I thought it was a effective way to strengthen our relationships and promote our interactions.
