So, I went to the dollar store and bought "special pencils" (decorated pencils). I introduced the "pencil challenge" to my students. We started with 2 weeks. If they still had their same pencil at the end of the 2 weeks, they would get a reward. I took masking tape and put it around the top of the pencil where they wrote their student numbers. Now the next challenge could be 3 or 4 weeks! They loved this! I teach 1st grade. Instead of a class marble jar, I have little plastic bees (to go with my last name) that the students earn as a whole class incentive.  I let the students know they are a team and have to work together as a team. They have a certain amount of bees they have to earn by the end of the week.  If they reach that goal, every student in the class earns a PBIS buck.  They really enjoy earning the bees and getting to count them in the jar.  When we count them I turn it into a very mini math lesson of adding/subtracting. They were taking their time and it was taking longer than expected. So I started choosing a team captain every week and they are responsible on putting the materials away for the group and getting any new materials for the group that is needed. The group that does it quickly and quietly gets a point. This helped my students transition tremendously. At the end of the day, if any group has tie points then I do ultimate trivia with buzzers with all the groups. This can be on anything we have learned thus far in the school year. The group with the most points at the end of the day gets candy. This has made my classroom transition smoothly. The first one is a punch card, 10 punches (1 card) can be traded for a sticker, 20 punches can be traded for something from the treasure box. Punches are earned for following CHAMPS. In the second quarter I started using Desk Pets (mini erasers in a "habitat" on their desk). The students earn coins for good behavior and extra coins for clean desks, helping out, being kind to others, etc... on Friday's during our inside teacher led PE time they are able to trade their coins for decorations for their habitats or extra pets. This helps them with behavior and also teaches them about money and saving money. I also use Jolly Ranchers for when the whole class is "making me jolly". I do not share with the class who it is, I put it in my pocket and throughout the period, I would say, "my special student is doing awesome!!" or "My special student isn't doing so well behaviorally today" At the end of the class, if that student did well, I announce their name and they get a lollipop, if the name I drew, wasn't doing well, I would say, "well better luck next time" and I would not revel the name of my student.
