         <description><![CDATA[<div>Barbara McClintock June 16, 1902 – September 2, 1992 was an American scientist and cytogeneticist who was awarded the 1983 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. McClintock received her PhD in botany from Cornell University in 1927. There she started her career as the leader in the development of maize cytogenetics, the focus of her research for the rest of her life. From the late 1920s McClintock  studied chromosomes and how they change during reproduction in maize. </div>]]></description>

Returning to her father’s business, she became secretary and treasurer of the firm in 1890. Her position made her the firm’s chief sales representative as well, and she was evidently the first woman to travel in such a line of goods.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The discovery of DNA's structure relied on the work of Rosalind Franklin.  She had nearly figured out the molecule’s structure when Maurice Wilkins, a researcher she worked with, showed one of Franklin’s X-ray images to James Watson and Francis Click. <br><br>Watson, Crick and Wilkins won a Nobel Prize in 1962 for their discovery.  Franklin was excluded.</div>]]></description>
