A Backpack

This was my backpack I wore during my Civil Air Patrol encampment, and I've been pretty attached this to it since. For one week, I lived out of this thing. On hot, sunny days, this backpack held my water. On humid, sweaty days, it held baby wipes, and on rainy ones it held a poncho. When someone needed something, chances were I had it in my backpack. Since you never know what you'll need in life, you might as well just throw a whole lot into a backpack and hope for the best. Often times, it's the stuff you never thought you needed that you end up feeling relieved to have packed. Life's full of surprises, so bring a backpack.

After facing trials time and time again, I've built up strength. My strength is what I turn to when I've lost a loved one, when I need to push just a bit harder to get over an obstacle, when I need stay up just an hour later to finish that paper. The more I face, the more prepared I am for the next challenge. So far, nothing's killed me, I just keep getting stronger.

Wherever I go, I wear a uniform. Whether I'm to school, to bed, or all the way to our nation's capitol, I'm wearing some sort of uniform. My uniform is the first impression people get from me before they've even met me, and it's important to set a good one. A nice uniform, whatever the occasion, keeps me looking sharp, and it tells people about me right off the bat.

Distance can put up some major barriers. Friends and Comrades can't always be there for me, but my family always is. Though one day I'll live away from them too, a family of some sort will never be gone. One day I'll have a family of my own, whose names I do not yet know, but they'll be there for me.

I've got all kinds of friends, and they're all very different. I think if you put all of my friends in one room, they probably wouldn't all get along, but that's okay with me. I think having a taste of so many different personalities is what makes me unique. Wherever I'm going, I'm sure to bring a friend along.

Love, in my opinion, is the most powerful emotion humans can experience. Whether it be love for family, for friends, a significant other, or anything in between. Love is what drives me to do the things I do. For the rest of my life, I know I will carry the love I have for others, for my passions, and it is from that love that my most memorable experiences will be born.

This is my flight from Encampment. On the first day of the week, "day zero" as they call it, they were complete strangers to me, and on day seven of the week, they felt like best friends. From these people, I learned that the challenges of life become a whole lot easier to face when you have people that can build you back up once you've been broken down. Without these comrades, I may have never made it through that week.

A Razor

Kind of a like a uniform, this is a tool I use to keep looking sharp (no pun intended). A freshly shaven, smooth face not only looks good, but feels good. This type of razor in particular is my favorite kind, as it's the hardest type to use, but yields the best results. It's a timeless tool that hasn't changed for centuries, and requires lots of time and effort to master. Though I'm still learning how to use one, the prospect of learning something so manual is a journey of its own, and I will carry the same sort of fascination with the analog for the rest of my life. Learning a new skill, like shaving with a straight razor, adds an appreciation for the little things.
